The Connecticut Dental Hygienists’ Association’s Professional Issues Forum, moderated by Marie Paulis, RDH, MSDH, will delve into the state of the current and future job outlook for Connecticut.? The moderator will present some potential alternative professional employment settings, some which exist on our state but may be unknown and a few which are more “out of the box,” like retail locations and more collaboration with medical personnel.? Carol is currently the Senior Professional Relations Manager at Water Pik, Inc. and has also practiced clinical dental hygiene for fourteen years. Carol has published numerous papers and has provided more than 250 continuing education courses in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. He is also member of an Italian clinical interdisciplinary team focused on healing postural misalignments by correcting dental malpositions. Dr. Cheli has been the founding director of a Ph.D program on interpersonal conflict resolution and several other academic programs on positive psychology, emotional intelligence, mindful relationships and relational counseling. He is considered one of the leading experts in the domains of Holism, Positive Psychology, and personal/transpersonal development. L.Ac., Ph.D. This class will explore the emerging East Asian Medical component within the US healthcare environment and its interactions with Dental Medicine. East Asian Medicine includes acupuncture, moxibustion, bodywork, massage, herbal supplements, and therapeutic exercises such as Tai Chi. This course will present the concepts of the EAM methodologies, and? the license structures that exist for EAM modalities. Many herbal supplements have a profound effect on the body’s metabolism and need to be used with caution. Further, herbal supplements can interact with pharmaceuticals and well as with nutraceuticals (vitamins and minerals). With the widespread availability and usage of EAM herbal supplements, it is important for clinicians to be aware of the potential interactions to most safely advise patients. The course will provide clinical examples and allow time for attendees to raise issues that have presented themselves in their own practice.? Steve Jackowicz, M.Ac., L.Ac., Ph.D. began his studies of East Asia at Harvard University. He went on to be the first foreign graduate of the Korea Modern School of Acupuncture. He further apprenticed under master East Asian Medical clinician Lee Kwangchul for four years. Dr. Jackowicz went on to study at the New England School of Acupuncture for a Master’s Degree and then at Boston University for a Ph.D. in East Asian Medical History.
