Position Title: Dental HygienistDepartment: DentalSupervisor: Dental DirectorSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneFLSA Status: ExemptSummary:The Dental Hygienist (DH) is a licensed person who may perform specific functions under the appropriate supervision and scope of practice; is responsible for the direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services to dental patients of Alluvion Health; is responsible for providing appropriate oral health information to individuals and groups; must be cognizant of the public health, social and economic factors which impact overall health, and more specifically the oral health of their patients; must be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal program effectiveness and patient benefit. Creates a feeling of belonging on the team and holds self and team accountable to those behaviors.Essential Job Responsibilities:Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting;Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care; record patient-hygienist transactions as they occur in patient's dental record to ensure dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided; Delivers direct patient care as assigned, using established dental hygienist application of sealants and fluorides, and related procedures;Performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist;Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of special tests, procedures, and complex treatments;Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results;Performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate for walk-in patients;Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient's health care management; Organizes and performs preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations; Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested; Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Alluvion Health dental protocol and directives; Assists in maintenance of all dental department areas in compliance with Alluvion Health policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues; Actively participates in the quality assurance/performance improvement program and process in accordance with established policy; continually analyzes methods operations within area of responsibility to identify/recommend QA/PI activities; Stays current on regulatory and accreditation standards and implements change in operations and/or practices as appropriate; Utilizes internal/external customer input to improve operations and customer service by implementing effective solutions and reevaluation; Coordinates and participates in work team as an active contributor, demonstrating respect and sensitivity for impact of team operations as a whole; Initiates and implements improvement solutions supporting/supervising staff and team in performance improvement activities; Treats everyone with established customer services standards to ensure continued satisfaction with service; responds to the needs of customers in a timely and competent manner and continually measures customer expectations and quality service; and performs other related duties, as required.Assists in preparation of patient care areas, and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process, as required; prepares reports and assists as required with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge and understanding of:Oral hygiene care in an outpatient setting; Third party payers and coding; Dental office practices, procedures, and techniques; dental terminology;Patient triage as it relates to the family practice setting;Dental procedures, coding and infection control;Electronic Dental Health records.Skills in:Customer relations and communication;Computer software programs for clinic practice management;Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel;Developing workable implementation plans;Group presentations;Developing and implementing cost saving measures, tracking costs and compliance with contracts and grants and conserving organizational resources.Ability to: Work in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions;Work as a part of a team; andOne (I) year experience.Certifications:Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of puter:Intermediate to advanced software knowledge in Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and the ability to learn and adequately operate Alluvion Health software applications.Language Skills:Fluent in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.Physical Requirements:Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
