400583460960-533412192Parish ProfileHurlford ChurchThe parish of Hurlford is situated in East Ayrshire , three miles from Kilmarnock with easy access to the M77 for commuting to Glasgow which is some twenty miles. Hurlford and Crookedholm are separate villages very close together. Hurlford and Crookedholm is a friendly place, which is surrounded by farmland, and is at the mouth of the Irvine valley. Although an Industrial area in the past it is now mainly a commuter village. The census of 2011 shows the population of the parish as 5,800. Household tenure within the parish shows 58% homes privately owned. Socially rented 35% and 7% privately rented. H.M. Prison is some three miles south of Hurlford and is known locally as Bowhouse.There is a Primary school in the village, with an academy in Galston and four academies in Kilmarnock. All are three miles from the village. Local shops consist of a small supermarket, post office , butcher and Chemist. There are also five fast food and two hairdressing establishments. Hurlford has both a doctor`s and dentist`s surgery. Kilmarnock, three miles from the village has all the usual shops and supermarkets and is reachable with a good bus service. ?After some twenty years our Minister retired, now we are looking for a Minister who is a people person, a good communicator and a good organiser giving encouragement and leadership whilst teaching God`s word.The Church building was erected in 1857 and a union with Hurlford Kirk and Reid Memorial Church took place in 1995. The new Church is known as Hurlford Church. Since then the Congregation have integrated well, and many visitors have commented on their friendly welcome. Develops confidence, self esteem through social contact for individuals who otherwise may be isolated and lonely.Dancing group and Barnardos rent the hall for weekly use.60384018991OutreachChristian Aid week starts with a lunch in May and a door to door collection with an extra coffee morning in March. Collection carried out in the villages with members of St Pauls Roman Catholic Church. There are other Services where both Congregations attend.Christmas cards delivered to all homes in the Parish. There is also a joint carol service with St Pauls. A watch night service is held with around 100 –120 attending. A high proportion are not members Annual Christmas Fayre which is the only fund raising event for Church funds. Food bank contributions, a box is available for this.?Shoe box appeal for Blythswood care. Ministry of flowers. Flowers delivered to members who are ill, bereaved, or in care, and on special anniversaries and birthdays. On occasions flowers are also given to members of the community in their time of need. This helps to uplift and let the recipients know that they are in our thoughts and Prayers.?Gifts to charities throughout the year.?School services —Good relationship with local school. Governance. The Kirk Session consists twenty six members with a total of 630 years service and meets monthly. The Congregational Board has nine more members and meets every two months. We have followed the stewardship programme as instructed by Presbytery.In 2015 twenty five funerals were conducted, one baptism and two weddings. Church membership as at the 1st September 2016 is 322.Accommodation.The buildings complex consists of two halls, large hall and small hall built in1972, along with the Vestry, are to the rear of the Church building. Kitchen which is situated between the halls, can cater for both simultaneously via hatches as required.There are excellent Ladies and Gents toilets along with a modern disabled toilet.Church has a speaker system and an induction loop system. The small hall has an induction loop system.There is a lounge off the hall vestibule, and a store off small hall.The Church heating was upgraded in 2013.Manse The Manse as already indicated is situated next to the Church building. Built in 1858 and is a two story building. Upstairs consist of four bedrooms and toilet with bath/shower. Downstairs , large sitting room, small sitting room and study. There is also a small toilet in the hall.Also downstairs is the Kitchen, and beyond the kitchen is a utility room.Fully carpeted throughout, windows have a combination of vertical blinds or curtains. Gas central heating throughout and all windows are double glazed.Cooker and dishwasher available.Manse has over the years been kept in good order. To the rear is a secluded garden. ................
