Real Estate Specialist Trainee 1 SG-13Real Estate Specialist 1 SG-18Job Description:As a Real Estate Specialist 1, under the supervision of a Real Estate Specialist 2, you would prepare appraisals of property and rent studies and review contractor prepared appraisals. You would also negotiate with property owners and landlords or their legal representative and assist in the acquisition and disposition of state-owned land. You would also coordinate activities and assist with claims in litigation with the Department of Law and respond to inquiries from the public and other state agencies.Trainees will receive a combination of structured training, on-the-job training, and/or practical job performance to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to function at the full performance level.Minimum Qualifications for Real Estate Specialist Trainee 1:Bachelor’s degree or higher.Minimum Qualifications for Real Estate Specialist 1:Six years of professional real estate experience related to real property appraisal, title searching, survey work determining property lines, negotiation of leases, and the sale of real property. One year of this experience must include the specialized experience of appraising real property. Or, you must have either a New York State General Real Estate Appraisal License or a New York State Land Surveyor Licensure.How To Apply:Most employees will be appointed to the Trainee 1 job title. Appointments to this job title require a two-year traineeship that starts at the Trainee 1, G-13 ($42,143), and advances, after one year of acceptable performance, to Trainee 2, G-14. After one year of acceptable performance as a Trainee 2, employees advance to the full performance, G-18, job title described above. No further Civil Service examination is required for advancement from Trainee 1 to Trainee 2, or from Trainee 2 to the full performance job title. To be appointed to the Real Estate Specialist Trainee 1, you must have taken and passed the Professional Careers Opportunities test held in 2017. As vacancies become available, you may be contacted once your score becomes reachable. To be appointed to the Real Estate Specialist 1, you must have taken and passed the most recent exam.
