CLAUSES

? A clause is a group of words that contains a VERB and a SUBJECT. It can be used as a sentence or as part of a sentence.

? SUBJECT: who or what the sentence is about ? VERB: What is happening in the sentence,

what is the action in the sentence.

EXAMPLES:

? Billy went to the store. ? Before Sandy studied for the test ? My mom baked some brownies

? An independent clause contains a subject and a verb.

? It expresses a complete thought. ? Can stand alone as a sentence. It is a

SIMPLE SENTENCE!!! ? EX: I have a record player. ? My groups of friends threw me a party.
