This document addresses using the deployment USB drive along with a crossover cable and using an external USB for a replace PC migration where a Factory PC will replace an existing PC. The Factory PC will already be imaged with the Windows 7 image; manual configuration will have to occur. The Light Touch Interface (LTI) will run automatically to assist in application installations. The Target (new) PC will consist of CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse power cables for PC, monitor, and a network cable. The PCs will be placed side by side and data will be migrated from the Source (old) PC to the Target (new) PC via a crossover cable or and External USB will be used to back up the existing data from the Source (Old) PC and restored to the Target (Factory-New) PC. The Dell Data Migration Tool (DMT) was developed to simplify the migration of data from an old operating system to a new operating system. The Light Touch Interface (LTI) was designed to automate deployment of the OS and applications. There will be two versions of the Deployment USB drive, 32-bit version 9 and 64-bit version 9; please use the appropriate version of the Deployment USB drive with the corresponding documentation.Migration Scenarios:32-bit USB drives will only work for the following:64-bit USB drives will only work for the following:Windows 7 (32-bit) -> Windows 7 (32-bit)Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) -> Windows 7 (64-bit)Supported ModelsDellOptiPlex 780OptiPlex 790OptiPlex 960OptiPlex 990OptiPlex 3040Optiplex 5040OptiPlex 7010OptiPlex 7020Optiplex 7040OptiPlex 9010OptiPlex 9020Latitude E6400Latitude E6410Latitude E6420Latitude E6430Latitude E6440Latitude E5470Log FilesDMT Logs will be found in: C:\Windows\Dell\LogsLTI Logs will be found in: C:\Windows\Dell\LTI_LogsObtain ‘Inventory Checklist’ This is the checklist with all the pertinent data of the Source (old) PC that is currently in production and scheduled to be retrofitted. This will keep NIC and hard‐drives from shutting down overnight.Renaming of a CV client PC needs to be coordinated with the Backup support group. If you rename a PC without uninstalling CV it will break the existing client until the CommVault system can be updated with the new name. If CV is uninstalled prior to renaming, on reinstall a new client (new name) will be made in the CommCell. The old client will still be there but should have its license removed. The backup history of the old client will be deleted during the next CommCell cleanup. This cleanup is usually performed once a month near the end of the month.Verify new clients are properly registered in DNS. All clients enter the CV system with their TXHHSC Domain FQDN. However, because we still get DHCP through DIR the PC sometime registers with DNS with an incorrect Domain FQDN. If DNS does not have the TXHHSC FQDN, CV will not run. The best way to see if the PC has registered with TXHHSC is to ping the FQDN name. If it fails to respond CV will not run. To get the PC to register in our Domain you will need to add two DCs from the TXHHSC environment into the DNS entries in the TCPIP properties. See table below of recommended DNS setting per DLO assignment. Use the table below for primary and secondary DNS information based on the DLO package.DLO PackagePrimary DNSSecondary DNSAUS147.80.42.142168.50.7.44MTP147.80.42.142168.50.7.44BEA168.41.7.44147.80.42.142CRC168.43.7.172147.80.42.142DAL168.35.7.44147.80.42.142HOU168.47.7.44147.80.42.142LUB168.50.7.44147.80.42.142ELP168.46.7.44147.80.42.142EDB168.45.7.44147.80.42.142SAT168.54.7.44147.80.42.142TYL168.57.7.44147.80.42.142After you complete these entries, access a command prompt and type IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS, then type IPCONFIG/REGISTER DNS. In about 15 minutes DNS should be able to resolve the FQDN name. The CommVault groups in Active Directory are for deploying the CV package only. The removal of users or computers objects from these groups does not remove the software from the PC or remove it from the CV system. It requires a manual uninstall via the Control Panel to remove CV.Do not install updates from client. Please do not initiate an update request from the DLO client. Updates for clients run every night in an attempt to update any clients that are “on line”. If you manually start this process you may find yourself answering a Command and Control inquiry as to what that traffic is and why it is out there.Contact your regional RNA staff for additional CommVault Troubleshooting assistance and problem escalation as needed. ................
