STRUCTURAL CAST STEEL COMPONENTS

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex Universal Pin Connectors are sleek, clevis-type standardized fittings designed to connect to hollow structural section (HSS) elements for use in architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) applications. The connectors have been sculpted to provide smooth transitional geometry that cannot be achieved using standard fabrication processes. Fabrication of true-pin connections to HSS members is difficult, particularly where aesthetics is a concern for exposed steel. The use of Universal Pin Connectors simplifies design, detailing, and fabrication of critical exposed structural connections to ensure consistent and reliable architectural appearance including smooth, curving transitions from every viewpoint. Delete if not required.

Universal Pin Connectors (UPC): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions.

Connectors shall be supplied with hot-dip galvanized carbon steel pins, carbon steel spacers, and electropolished stainless steel cap plates, countersunk retaining screws, and washers.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex Architectural Tapers are hollowed, cast structural steel conical tapers designed to connect to hollow structural section (HSS) elements for use in architecturally exposed steel (AESS) application. Fabrication of hollow conical steel tapers is difficult and often necessitates forming and welding of plates which can result in an unsightly finished product. Incorporating cast architectural tapers will ensure availability, cost effectiveness, and consistent quality and appearance. Delete if not required.

Architectural Tapers (ART): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions.

Architectural Tapers (ART) and Universal Pin Connectors (UPC), where used together: Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Universal Pin Connector and Architectural Taper shall be welded by the Steel Fabricator to form the connection assembly. Strengths are governed by the Universal Pin Connector.

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions.

Universal Pin Connectors shall be supplied with hot-dip galvanized carbon steel pins, carbon steel spacers, and electropolished stainless steel cap plates, countersunk retaining screws, and washers.

Carbon steel spacers shall be tack welded to and coated with the gusset plate to which the connector is pin connected.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER **Cast Connex Diablo Bolted Splices are cast steel fittings that enable unobtrusive field bolted splices between circular hollow sections. The fittings are designed such that the bolted connection is inboard of the outer diameter of the connected elements. Splices made with Diablo Bolted Splices can be sheathed in thin-gauge plate to completely conceal the splice or can be left uncovered for a sleek, technical connection aesthetic. Delete if not required.

Diablo Bolted Splices (DBS): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions and connection strengths.

Unless otherwise noted, the Steel Fabricator shall supply cover plates to conceal the bolted portion of the splice.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex High Strength Connectors simplify and improve connections to round hollow structural section (HSS) brace members in seismic-resistant concentrically braced frames. High Strength Connectors are modular, capacity-designed brace end connectors that accommodate bolted double-shear connection between round HSS braces and corner gusset plates. By eliminating shear lag in the brace connection and standardizing connection details, use of the connectors vastly simplifies connection design, and eliminates the need to field weld braces to frames, speeding up installation and reducing the cost of special inspection. Delete if not required.

High Strength Connectors (HSC): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions.

Meet requirements in ICC-ES ESR 3031 for Cast Connex High Strength Connectors.

The welded joint between the connectors and the round HSS or pipe member shall be a complete joint penetration (CJP) weld and shall comply with the requirements set forth for demand critical welds in AISC 341, AISC 360, AWS D1.1, and AWS D1.8 for welded connections in seismic-resistant applications.

Where High Strength Connectors are bolted to gusset plates, bolts must be pre-tensioned.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex Cast Bolted Brackets (CBB) are a prequalified connection for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames per AISC 358 and can be used in the retrofit of seismically deficient steel moment framed buildings or in new construction. The CBB moment connection is designed to eliminate field welding and, when used in new construction, to facilitate frame erection. There are two types of CBB available - those accommodating bolted connection to the beam flange (B-series) and those accommodating welded connection to the beam flange (W-series). Both types are designed to enable field bolting of the beam to the column, thus eliminating field welding. The B-series CBB are particularly well-suited to retrofit, as they offer a weld-free option for addressing seismically deficient steel moment frames. Delete if not required.

Cast Bolted Brackets (CBB): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions and shall meet the requirements set out in AISC 358 Chapter 9 for Cast Bolted Bracket Moment Connection.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex custom designed castings. Delete if not required.

Custom Designed Castings: Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation, including:

Structural Requirements:

The steel castings shall be engineered to resist the forces indicated on the structural drawings and shall have general out-and-out dimensions as shown on the structural drawings.

Architectural Requirements:

The exterior shaping of the steel castings shall generally conform to that shown on the drawings. All edges shall be radiused and the Manufacturer may draft flat surfaces away from parting lines.

Castings shall be furnished with visual inspection of exterior surfaces to confirm compliance with ASTM A802 Level 1.

**NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Cast Connex Timber End Connectors are clevis-type fittings designed to connect to the ends of heavy timber or glue-laminated structural elements loaded in predominately tension or compression for use in architecturally exposed applications. Delete if not required.

Timber End Connectors (TEC): Provide as shown on the drawings, as manufactured by Cast Connex Corporation including:

Materials shall comply with manufacturer's current published data for dimensions.

Connection between the Timber End Connector and the timber/glulam element shall be coordinated between Cast Connex Corporation and the Timber Supplier.
