Nerve Blocks of the Hand & Foot To alleviate suffering is one of the key tasks of the emergencyphysician. You know from experience that local anesthesia of the palms and soles can be painful and difficult, and can be very unsatisfactory for both patient and physician. Large injuries to the extremities can be difficult to anesthetize by local infiltration. Regional anesthesiatechniques can make life better for everyone! In this workshop you will learn the theory and technique of regional anesthesia and also gain knowledge of the toxicity of local anesthetics and its treatment.Your patients will be very grateful and your work will become significantly safer and more fun! Grading of evidence and recommendations. Basic principles of applying GRADE GRADE has been developed by a widely representative group of international guideline developers. GRADE makes a clear separation between quality of evidence and strength of recommendations, uses explicit, comprehensive criteria for downgrading and upgrading quality of evidence ratings, explicitly acknowledges patient values and preferences, and is useful for systematic reviews and health technology assessments, as well as guidelines. In this workshop the basic principles of GRADE will be demonstrated with a practical exercise. After the workshop participants should be able: ? to evaluate the quality of evidence provided by randomized controlled trials using

the GRADE framework ? to cite clinical recommendations by considering the balance of desirable and

undesirable consequences, the quality of evidence and the variability in patients' values and preferences. Hans de Beer, AC Ton
