I am currently compiling a list of kits and their characteristics by model. When it is complete, I will post it in the general post area, for those that are interested. I was going to include it in this mail, but at just under a thousand words, and still growing, I will complete and sumarize before posting.

Any one that is interested, or can contribute with availability locally, please email me directly and I will send you a complete copy when it is complete.

Sorry it's taken a while, but as promised, here is a list of kits that I have compiled. If anyone has any further comments or reviews to add, please let me know, and I will include them in the latest version.

Model List

Revision Date 2/2/98.

944

Revell Germany produced a nice 1/24 kerbside 944S in left hand drive (There is a little engine detail, but it is a turbo engine, not the 16 Valve), this is readily converted into a 944 NA, but this has been discontinued for a while now, so if you see one, grab it !

A better bet is the Italeri 1/24 944S, which is practically the same kit, again if you can get your hands on one, as this one has probably gone out of production too, but more recently. The conversion should involve no more than extending the bumpers, and adding the larger front overriders and altering the wheels (teledials). If you have cookie cutters, this complicates matters, as you have to alter the teledials to suit. The auxillary indicator lights could be painted on for simplicity (I use a couple of coats of Humbrol Clear Orange painted over well dried Chrome Silver 191 for lights). A sunroof can also be cut into the body, by taking measurements from the full size car.

The Italeri 944 Cabriolet, is actually closer to the Cabriolet 'Studie' prototype, basically a 16V Cabrio, with the Turbo front end, with fuchs alloys. This car was produced by Bauer, before the American Sunroof Corporation got the contract to build the production version. To accurately complete the S2 Cabrio, add a set of Fujimi 911 Carrera 2 Targa alloys (7 spoke).

Unfortunately, Fujimi never produced a 944 kit, but they have done a few 928's and a large number of 911 variants (see 911 section, above).

944 Turbo (951)

Italeri, Hasegawa and Revell all produce, or have produced good kits of 944 turbo's (951's) both road and Blaupunct Turbo Cup versions. My favourite are the Hasegawa's, as these kits include fine engine detail, carpets (!), lifting bonnet (hood) and operating pop-up headlamps..

I was at EWA today and they have stock of the out of production NZG models that were sold at Porsche dealers. They are $19.00 and 1:43 scale. The only 944 was a black S2 (Or Turbo, looks the same in 1:43). They also had mid eighties Carrera Coupe and Cab as well as 928S4's and a 964 cab.

Subject: 951 Die-Cast Model

I have several 1:43 die cast 944/951/S2 Die cast models. They are made by NZG. This company made them for Porsche in the 80's. Problem is they are out of business. They show up now and than at a local store, I also got a few at a swap meet at Lime Rock Park. The local store is EWA They say they get the NZG's now and than. Marc Gelefsky

Do not patronize Big Daddy! The guy is a total asshole and charges more than a dealer for factory posters. If you need a Porsche model, try a company called Fast Lane RSR at 714-220-0993. They only deal in Porsche replica's.

Match Box has finally put out a 944 turbo to there collection of cars. I ran across it when I found a post on the internet about how another company(??????) has finally put out the 928. This sounds like something to add to my Porsche collection, I went out to find it at toy store. Instead I ran across the 944 turbo small Match Box car fully detailed like the larger die cast versions. It was under a new series put out called the Premiere Collection ($5.00), just for those people who worship there 944 as much as I do. It mite sound like a kids toy but its the same size as my Porsche dealers 911's he has for sale at $34 a piece.

944 die casts are hard to come by - I too have been searching all-over. While rummaging through my local hobby shop, I found a 1:43 model (about 4" long) of a 944 turbo made by Corgi. The detail wasn't great but it's the best I could find so far.

I have found several 944 die casts from time to time at . Suggest you check it out. Ebay is an online auction. Type in "Porsche" in the search column, and usually it shows 500+/- items for sale. Mostly models and such, but parts, cars, etc. sometimes.
