Still Lives of Fruit- OutlineArtComparing Pictures of Still Lifes of FruitThe students will look at different pictures of Still lifes of fruit one from Paul Cezanne, Frida Kahla, and a modern day photographer with an unknown artist. The students will compare and contrast the still lives and talk about why people paint still life’s, and how they make the students feel.Student will create their own still lifesAfter looking at examples of still lives in the above activity the students will be invited to create a fruit life of their own using a variety of mediums. The students will be able to draw or photograph the fruit and be able to arrange how ever is most aesthetically pleasing to the students. MathCreating a graph of the students favorite Still LifeAfter being exposed to the pictures of still life’s throught he art activities the students will each get a paper or sticky note with their name on it and then place it under their favorite still life picture. This will creat a graph to show the students favorite still life and how many students liked each still life. We will count the number of people that liked each still life and find the one that had the most people and the lest amount of people. Sorting different types of fruits seeds into groupsThe students will get different kind of fruit seeds and then be asked to sort them in different ways. For example by size, color, and also into the different types of seeds themselves. Social stuiesExotic FruitsI will show pictures to the students and talk to them about where they can find exotic fruits in the world. We will also talk about why some places have different types of fruit than others. Other uses for fruitI will first brainstorm with the students other things to do with fruit besides eat it, and then share with them some other uses for fruit like jam, hair dye, and more. ScienceFruits and our bodiesI will talk to the students about what fruits do that are good for our bodies and how they help our bodies grow and be strong. I will show them the food pyramid and talk about how many servings of fruits and vegatables we should eat every day to stay healthy.Life of an Apple TreeI will talk to the students about how an Apple tree starts out as a seed and the phases it takes to grow into a tree and bear fruit. I will show the students pictures to further their understanding. LiteracyGregory the Terrible Eater by Mitchell SharmatI will read this book and we will talk about what makes Gregory a terrible eater and is he eating terrible for people or for a goat? This story will help us furher discuss fruits and healthy eating. Write a Poem about FruitsIn circle time we will make up different kinds of poems about fruit and I will write it out for the students so they can see it on chart paper. Music Apples and BannansI will teach the students the song Apples and Bannanas, and we will sing it together. Picked a StrawberryTeach the students the song Picked a Strawberry and have them sing it.
