SHORT BIO

Dr. Stewart Miller is Professor of Management in the Department of Management at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Also, he is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. He has research interests in international strategy, liability of foreignness, internationalization, linguistic distance, corporate social responsibility, executive misconduct, foreign subsidiary performance and research methods. He has taught strategic management, international management, IB strategy, and global comparative management, and international corporate governance as well as research methods. In 2012, he was named to “25 of the Best Business Professors in Texas” by . In 2017, he received the E. Lou Curry Teaching Excellence Award.

He has over 50 publications include scholarly articles, cases, teaching notes, book chapters. His articles have appeared or are forthcoming in Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Global Strategy Journal, Management International Review, International Business Review and Long-Range Planning, International Journal of Operations & Production Management among others. Also, he is a co-author (with H. Deresky) of the forthcoming textbook, International Management (10th edition).

He was a local arrangements co-chair for the 2011 Academy of Management annual meeting in San Antonio. He is President and a Co-Founder of the Academy of International Business Research Methods SIG (RM-SIG). He is the 2020 Chapter Chair for the Academy of Int’l Business – Southeast US Chapter Annual Conference. He has served as Associate Editor for International Business Review. Currently, he serves on the editorial review boards of Journal of International Business Studies, Management International Review, Journal of Management Studies, and Global Strategy Journal.

Objective: Prepare a research paper that (1) examines the indirect implications for Chinese companies (i.e., their headquarters) of investing in the United States, especially in terms of any legal liabilities that might occur from their activities worldwide and (2) addresses other implications, like being more easily subject to pressure (e.g., on human rights and environmental areas) and any other implications that establishing a direct investment in the United States would have for them.
