3. Catalog Description [§335.2] (Insert new/revised description in space below):

Explores the techniques and aesthetics of digital image capture and manipulation using digital photography, scanning, and computer imaging software as tools for creative expression. Students learn essential digital camera operations and skills necessary to navigate and work in the computer environment. Students use industry standard software to edit and enhance original digital photographs and images to express a personal vision. A course fee is required.

5. Learning Outcomes [§335.2]

knowledge and skills embodied in the program’s educational objectives.]

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate a functional knowledge of Adobe Photoshop software in a Mac computer environment

• Recognize the role of Adobe Photoshop in digital photography

• Describe the use and importance of what utilizes computer memory functions and the ability to maintain a workable file size while meeting project requirements

• Demonstrate proficiency in scanning images using a flatbed scanner, saving, and color correcting associated files to disk in order to manipulate and create original, computer-generated imagery in Adobe Photoshop

• Operate and utilize the essential functions of a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera

• Express a personal vision through the creation of design work and photographs

• Recognize the use and importance of various file formats and print completed projects to various output devices

• Critique the effectiveness of one’s own and peer work

• Practice effective communication in critique sessions using the vocabulary of visual design

- Creating new imagery by using various filters

- Photo retouching and color correction

- Creating special effects with type

D. Using a Digital Camera

- Size, Pixel and Resolution

- File formats and memory

- Exposure options including depth of field, shutter speed, color balance

- Downloading and saving images
