Be prepared to identify if a verb is transitive or intransitive. For example:

v.i.

1. Dinosaurs existed millions of years ago.

existed = intransitive verb because there are no direct or indirect objects

v.t.

2. Miners found a huge black diamond last year in South Africa.

found = transitive verb because it has a direct object (diamond)

Be prepared to identify if direct and indirect objects. For example:

1. Jane paid the college $600 in tuition and fees this semester.

$600 = direct object (paid what?)

the college = indirect object (paid whom? who received the $600?)

Finally, be prepared to change active voice sentences into passive voice sentences and to write passive voice sentences based on pictures you see (e.g. the hotel room robbery picture).
