2) The paragraph below contains reported speech. You need to re-write it as a piece of dialogue using direct speech.

Stanley told Zero that he was afraid of what might happen to them if they didn’t go back to camp. Zero patted Stanley on the back and tried to reassure him, telling him that everything would be alright and hat they wouldn’t get in to too much trouble. Stanley disagreed with what Zero had said. They continued to walk in the hot sun. When they reached the edge of the hill Stanley pointed to the tents and informed Zero that’s where they needed to go. Zero replied by saying that it might be a better idea to walk all the way around to the other side of the camp as he knew a better way to sneak past the guards. Stanley told Zero he wasn’t sure if that was the best idea, but Zero convinced Stanley that he knew what he was talking about.

The two boys set off on the long walk around the camp. Zero said that he wished he hadn’t thrown his torch away as it was starting to get dark but Stanley reminded him that out here in the desert, a torch would be easy to spot and might give them away. Zero agreed, but said that he would a least like to see where he was going. Suddenly, they heard something and Stanley whispered to Zero to get down and hide.

3) Open your reading book and see if you can find any examples of direct speech. Copy them into your literacy book and then write them out as reported speech.
