GENERAL OVERVIEW OF JOB

Responsible for consistently meeting Montessori Directress responsibilities. Supports Administrative Director in meeting school responsibilities of customer service. Ability to guide/direct, monitor and supervise any age group of students utilizing prescribed Montessori training and techniques. Must have ability to adapt to needs of the students and the community. Maintain and foster positive and constructive interaction with students and parents. Assist with Montessori Teacher training and development. Ensure and assist with maintaining a safe and clean environment. Assist with other duties as needed: may include food preparation, van chauffeuring, answering the phone, responding to parent questions, and opening and closing the school. Participates in special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The essential functions of this job and the tasks required to support them.
1. Students
➢ Consistently strive to meet all Directress responsibilities of customer service, guiding and nurturing the development and learning of primary/elementary students. Provide (identifiable activity routines for the students) a prepared environment, offering and facilitating activity “transitions,” observing the students constantly.
➢ Demonstrate a working knowledge and application of Montessori principles/philosophy.
➢ Use a daily schedule based on prescribed Montessori ideals. Function as a reference person and exemplar for students.
➢ Maintain ongoing knowledge of Montessori principles. Maintain needed skills to guide and direct primary/elementary students.
➢ Assist Administrative Director with primary/elementary Directress training/development and Montessori program advancement.
➢ Create an environment that fosters and showcases Montessori learning.
➢ Maintain knowledge of local elementary expectations for kindergarten readiness, keeping these in mind while guiding the learning process.
2. Parent Relations
➢ Communicate Montessori philosophy to parents.
➢ Recognize and respect appropriate parent/student confidentiality.
➢ Interact with parents in a positive, friendly manner.
➢ Provide parent/student with daily or weekly Guaranteed Communications and participate with Administrative Director in Parent-Teacher conferences.
➢ Participate in student portion of parent tours, when possible.
➢ Promote Montessori primary/elementary program and school readiness with parents.
➢ Encourage parental involvement and support student’s relationship with family by:
o Providing opportunities to appreciate student’s families as a part of Montessori program;
o Using information about families’ culture in experiences offered to students.

3. Care.
➢ Maintain constant supervision of students in care; attend to students in distress. Supervise all activities to ensure proper participation and safety.
➢ Use appropriate positive Montessori discipline techniques with students.
➢ Interact with the students in a friendly and supportive manner using student’s names with calm tone of voice.
➢ Follow policy and procedures for all of the students’ activities and follow all regulatory agency standards.
➢ Report to the Administrative Director any signs of illness, injury or abuse of students. Take appropriate action in any emergency situation.
➢ Maintain sanitary standards for self and students.
➢ Maintain accurate attendance records of students.
4. Other Staff Duties.
➢ Support Administrative Director in meeting facility and Director responsibilities of customer service.
➢ Consistently and regularly attend work as scheduled.
➢ Complete other duties as assigned by the Administrative Director or their designate.
➢ Assist with facility clean-up and maintenance of student areas, both interior and exterior.
➢ Attend scheduled Staff meetings, workshops, open houses and parent events as requested.
➢ Must work in any additional capacity as requested by the Administrative Director as needed in both short and long term situations
REQUIREMENTS
❑ EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE:
The MINIMUM required to perform this position.
➢ 2-3 years early childhood education experience and education in a related field; a Bachelor’s degree and/or Montessori Certification for the appropriate age group.
❑ SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND/OR LICENSING:
➢ Any license, certificates or specialized ongoing training that are required by state law or regulatory agencies. For example: CDA, CPR, ECE units, law enforcement clearance, etc. group.
➢ Course work in child development (required)
➢ Meet state regulations to supervise a group of students alone (required)

➢ Must be 21 years of age.

➢ Good decisions benefit the students’ overall well-being and education; poor decisions could negatively impact students’ overall well-being and result in parental concerns.
➢ Appropriate training and orientation can facilitate a good start for Directresses; poor interaction can result in Staff problems.
