Dear Parents & Students,

We have approximately 11 weeks from today until we take our first CRCT test. I have designed this homework packet to cover most of the information that will be found on the CRCT. Anything I have left off will be covered in class. I have attached the CRCT schedule on the next page.

Along with the regular Vocabulary/Spelling homework, this is the main bulk of the homework I will be assigning until we get back from Spring Break. Additionally, your child will also be bringing home practice Reading passages. I have also attached the test-taking strategies that are to be used with the Reading passages. I cannot tell you how valuable these strategies are. As long as your child uses these strategies on their Reading homework and on the Reading CRCT, they should do just fine.

I will not be giving a schedule to do this homework by. I would rather each child work at their own pace. If your child would like to do more homework one night than the other, that is fine. It is your call parents, but it is essential that they complete everything assigned in this packet. I highly encourage weekend homework as well. Also, studying this material over Spring Break is another excellent idea. If your child knows this material, then they should do just fine on the CRCT.

I am having the children bring home the following textbooks: Language Arts, Math, and Science. These textbooks are checked out to your child, so they are responsible for them. Any lost or damaged textbooks must be paid for before the end of the school year, or their final report cards will be held until the matter is resolved. ALL of the textbooks and completed homework need to be back in the classroom by April 7th.

If your child or you have any questions about anything in this CRCT homework packet, please do not hesitate to ask me. You can write me a note or email me at bell.lisa.n@muscogee.k12.ga.us. You can also call or text me at (706)577-1874. I want to thank you in advance for your help and support. Together, we can make sure your child is as prepared for the CRCT as possible. (

Sincerely,

Ms. Bell

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS AT SCHOOL ON TIME EACH DAY THAT IS LISTED ABOVE! IF THEY ARRIVE LATE, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE TEST SCHEDULED FOR THAT DAY!

Reading Passage Test-Taking Strategies:

1. Read the questions first to set a purpose for reading.

2. When reading the passage, underline information that would go with the questions you read.

3. When answering the questions, look back in the passage and underline the answer.

4. Read ALL answer choices before making a selection.

5. Eliminate wrong answers by crossing them out.

Math Test-Taking Strategies:

1. Underline or circle key words in word problems such as: (altogether, how many more, how much fewer, split evenly, etc.) These words should give you clues of which operation to should use… addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.

2. Read each problem carefully! What exactly is the problem asking?

3. SHOW YOUR WORK! Do not do math in your head!!!

4. Check your answer using the inverse operation. For example, for an addition problem, the inverse operation is subtraction.

Other Test Taking Tips:

1. Do NOT leave any questions blank. A blank answer equals a wrong answer that will count against you!

2. Circle key words in the questions. Make sure you know exactly what the question is asking you.

3. Guess on any of the ones that you do not know. Choose what you think is the best answer by eliminating the choices that do not seem correct.

4. Don’t expect to always know the answers to most questions after only one reading.

5. Never choose an answer that contains any wrong information. If any part of an answer choice is wrong, do not choose this answer.

6. About every 10 answers or so, check your answer sheet with your test booklet to make sure that you have been bubbling on the correct lines. If you wait until the end of the test to check over your answer sheet, you could have a problem.

7. If you have time after you finish the test, go back and recheck all of your answers in this part of the test. Be sure to check the ones you guessed at first.

8. Be aware of the three types of questions you will have to answer:

“Right there questions” where the answer can be found right there on the page.

“Think and search questions” where you must look in two or more places for the answer and then make an intelligent guess.

“On your own questions” where you must combine your own background knowledge with the information given in the reading passage.

9. Get a good night’s sleep!

10. Eat a healthy breakfast- not a lot of sugar!

11. Be on time for school!

12. Focus! Concentrate! Be serious!

13. You can do this!!! You are very intelligent!!! (

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS…

***If you find your child is having trouble in a certain area, please feel free to utilize the other pages in these books, which pertain to those areas, for extra practice. However, please ensure that your child completes and turns in ALL of the assigned pages by April 7th. Your child may also choose to turn in a packet of weekly completed work each Friday. This would actually help me with my grading. These assignments will count as their homework grades. It is essential that your child do a good chunk of the homework listed below every night! If they do not, I’m afraid they will fall behind and run out of time to finish. For example, I counted the number of assignments and calculated the numbers based on the weekdays only. If your child does 2 or 3 pages of Math each weeknight, they will be finished by April 7th. If they do that and do some on the weekends as well, they will be in excellent shape. They may choose whatever subject they like each night, just as long as it all gets finished. This is not busy work! This work is very serious. These assignments will help prepare your child for the CRCT. Thank you for your support and cooperation!

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING~ PLEASE PUT A HEADING AT THE TOP OF EACH PAGE, SO I KNOW WHAT I AM GRADING. I NEED YOUR NAME, THE SUBJECT, PAGE NUMBER, AND ANY OTHER INFORMATION THAT WILL HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT WORK YOU DID. PLEASE NUMBER YOUR PROBLEMS/QUESTIONS JUST LIKE THEY ARE IN THE TEXTBOOKS. IF I CAN’T FIGURE OUT WHAT I AM GRADING… I CAN’T GIVE YOU A GRADE!

THANK YOU!

DO YOUR BEST ON THESE ASSIGNMENTS. AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT TO KEEP YOU BUSY. THEY ARE TO HELP YOU STUDY AND PREPARE FOR THE CRCT.

I KNOW YOU WILL DO AMAZING!
