Summer Camp is Where it’s At!

By Nancy

Going to summer camp is a great way to spend your summer. Summer camp teaches you how to be independent and make your own decisions. You can meet new people and make new friends that you can keep in touch with forever. You can make a lot of great memories at camp, too. Some of my favorite memories have been at camp.

Camp is great because you learn how to play new games that you might really like. You can make crafts, go swimming, and have camp fires. At all the camps I’ve been to they have skits planned with counselors in them. They are either funny or teach you a life lesson.

At one camp I went to they had a puppet show. And one day we did water games like a slip and slide and had a water balloon toss.

If you don’t already go to a summer camp I think you should sign up. Take your time to find the right one for you to participate in. Trust me. It will be fun and a great experience for you!

Selfies-Fad or Here to Stay?

Top Songs of the Summer

LMSRampages 14

Hello Selfie Lovers! Do you ever wonder if selfies are here to stay? Well, guess what? They are! Just not in the way you expect them to. For now selfies are just pictures, but doctors have predicted in the future, selfies are going to turn into selfie videos. Yes, selfie videos! Selfies will be used as part of telepresence or augmented reality. The video trend that’s bound to come will evolve in a way that allows us to produce selfies on top of other objects or in other places. What does this mean? If I feel like going to the Grand Canyon, I can take my picture and do an augmented selfie and be there! There will be an app that will let me do selfie videos. Doctors are predicting that we will see them in about 3-5 years.

We will be able to be every place and be connected to everyone and everything. I’m sure I just bombarded you with a ton of information, but you have to admit it-our future with selfies is going to be pretty amazing!

What do you think about Selfies? Voice your opinion. Fill out a form and drop it off in the Newspaper Box on the table outside the office. We may use your editorial in our next issue!

While your main goal of distributing a newsletter might be to sell your product or service, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers.

A great way to add useful content to this newsletter is to develop and write your own articles, or include a calendar of upcoming events or a special offer that promotes a new product.

You can also research articles or find “filler” articles by accessing the World Wide Web. You can write about a variety of topics but try to keep your articles short.

Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Word offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you’re finished writing your newsletter, convert it to a Web site and post it.

Did you see the new Cafeteria?

Book Review

“Wonder”

LMSRampages 14

I got a chance to talk with Mrs. O’Halloran, our Cafeteria Coordinator, about the changes this year in our cafeteria.

There is a new set up that is much more open and gives the students more room. There won’t be any more Turkey Hill Iced Teas. Instead, students will enjoy the new cartons of Vegetable Juice that are a vegetable alternative. And they will still have plenty of water!

This year we have smart snacks like Rice Krispie Treats that are even healthier now since they are made with whole grains!

Mrs. O’Halloran thinks “Kids will learn to enjoy the healthier foods!”

For more information look up Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act.

What do you think of the new cafeteria look and foods? Voice your opinion! Fill out a form and drop it in the Newspaper Box on the table outside the office.

Hi, I’m Moko. I’m a baby chimpanzee. I have silky smooth fur, big brown eyes and clean skin.

My momma and papa tell stories about when they were little. They would eat exotic plants and leafy greens. There would be lots of bananas from their very own trees!

Then one day, these humans came along and took my momma and papa. They were put in a box and sent over an ocean. They had to work in these horrible labs. They made them do experiments. The food wasn’t good anymore and they didn’t get a lot of it.

Then one day, they were shipped off to a new home that looked exactly like the one they used to live in. They were so happy.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service proposed declaring captive chimps endangered. They are being used less and less in experiments for medical research. When they retire chimps they send them to a beautiful sanctuary in Keithville, Louisiana. There are over 300 chimps living there. They are continually adding new playgrounds to make room for new friends. The goal of the Fish and Wildlife Service is to conserve the chimpanzee.

“Wonder”, written by R.J.Palacio, is Palacio’s first novel. “Wonder” was published in 2012 and is a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

“Wonder” was read by all the fifth graders last year from Central Dauphin School District. This is a new tradition that will continue in our elementary schools.

“Wonder” is about a boy named August Pullman, who was born with face deformation.

After being homeschooled for several years, he decides to go to school at “Beecher Prep”.

While there he faces multiple challenges and meets new friends.

This is one of my favorite books and I recommend reading “Wonder”.

Selfie-an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks. First known use was in 2002.

Tweep-a person who uses the Twitter online message service to send and receive tweets. First known use was in 2008.

Microsoft released “Xbox One” on November 22, 2013. The original price started at $499.99. Around the same time, the “Playstation 4” was released. It was a stiff competition between the two systems.

But now, almost a year later, we are all wondering the same question: Will there be an “Xbox Two”?

Fans of the “Xbox One” have made fake ads for the “Xbox Two”, but there has been no definite answer. Multiple websites have been asking this question, but the answer is unknown. A couple websites though, believe there will be an “Xbox Two”, but not until 2018-2019. Sony also believes they will release a “Playstation 5”.

We will just have to wait!
