The Bivouac training weekend will expose the cadets and staff of all cadet units to setting up, living in, and maintaining a Bivouac Site. This training weekend will be conducted in conjunction with 318 RCACC, 2550 RCACC, 2859 RCACC, 1180 RCACC, 2531 RCACC and 3059 RCACC.MISSIONCadets and ALL staff will participate in a Bivouac Exercise being held in Taylor Memorial field on September 16-18 , 2016 in the village of Harvey.EXECUTIONConcept of OperationsCommanders IntentThe intent of the Bivouac training weekend is to provide the cadets and staff of all parties involved with a higher understanding of a bivouac site, routine, community service and fun. The adventure training weekend should expose the cadets to the difficulties of canoeing and practicing leave no trace camping while providing senior cadets with the opportunity to practice leadership in an experiential setting. The bivouac training weekend will be challenging both physically and mentally while staying within the aims of the adventure training EO. It will provide cadets from various backgrounds and locations to draw on their previous experiences and to test them in a new environment. OPERATION HARVEY STORM will provide cadets the opportunity to test themselves as leaders and to practice leading a group in difficult environments. The main intent of this weekend exercise is to boost visibility of the cadet program in the Harvey area in an effort to augment recruitment. The large volume of cadets participate in canoe, and bivouac training is sure to peak public interest. It is expected that various community leaders will be on site as spectators. Scheme of Maneuver Cadets and staff will be broken into tent groups and Platoons groups. Tent groups will be for sleeping and Platoons will be for meals and training specific activities. Cadets and staff will train and conduct activities within these groups. Training will be conducted as required to meet training and performance objectives as dictated by A-CR-CCP-701/PG-001 M121 “Participate as a team member during a weekend bivouac exercise”. Routes and NAV points are to be determined once the RECCE has been completed. Once finalized, these points may change at the discretion of the OPI. Route selection for emergencies and alternate routes for training or weather related purposes will be provided externally from this document.Out of Bounds. While training, cadets and staff are required to stay within their tent area during the night, and the designated training area IAW the training schedule. Since the exercise is taking place near a lake, and a railway bed; at no point are cadets to be near either without direct supervision by their platoon staff.Maps. Will not be needed for this exercise due to its location within a town. But the Topographical map of the area is 21 G /10 and 21 G/ 11Dress. Friday night Combats/FTU or appropriate civilian for cadets not yet in possession of a FTUSaturday Canoe training will be conducted in swimming gear. males and females will wear a t-shirt and shorts, hat, and water shoes while conducting canoe training. Cadets may return to wearing their FTU when not participating in canoe trainingSunday All staff and officers will wear FTU/combats or Suitable civilian attire. Officers are to maintain an acceptable standard of dress for the duration of the exercise. Females and males alike will conform to Canadian forces dress regulations, unless in possession of proof of medical reasoningWhen dressed in Combats and FTU, Cadets and staff are to wear the wide brimmed bush cap (Tilley Hat) in accordance with adventure training standards. Berets are unacceptable.SafetySafety During the exercise will always remain the highest priority. A safety Vehicle will remain on site in a suitable location. Designated first aid personnel will know the requirements and location of the vehicle and the best exit strategy.There are multiple qualified first aid personnel among the platoons and adult staff.Local emergency evac numbers will be established and in hand of all personnel.Grids, lat/long, and UTM will be listed for emergency access. All personnel will use the designated latrine. Latrines will be designated by a red or blue glow stick to mark male and female latrines. All personnel are required to clean themselves regularly to maintain hygiene standard using the wash basins provided.Equipment. All equipment will be procured by the hosting unit unless otherwise directed by the OPI.Smoking. Officers are permitted to smoke during this event, but only in designated smoking areas which will be determined upon arrival.Smoking is prohibited during training hours with the exception of meals, Down time, and the standard work breaks of 1000hrs and MAND AND SIGNALSCommand point.The command point location will be at the main biv site for the duration of the Bivouac weekend.
