2nd Grade Homework

Due: Friday, September 5, 2014

Reminder: All homework is due on Friday. Work not completed must be done in study hall.

*Be sure you put your name on EVERY paper.

Math: We have been working on number patterns again this week (sequencing numbers and finding the pattern). Your homework is to complete the attached sheet...you will need crayons to complete it. Be looking for patterns on this sheet.

Reading: We will not have a reading story out of the reading book this week. Instead, we are going to review the two stories we have read (Iris and Walter, Henry and Mudge). We will continue learning about the genre of realistic fiction and the skills of character, setting and plot. It would be a good idea to re-read both of these stories this week.

Spelling: Since we will not have a new reading story this week, we will not have new spelling words either. ( You do not need to write spelling words in your binder this weekend. I have attached the spelling words from our first 2 stories for you to review. We will be doing activities with those words next week.

English/Writing Workshop: It is important that you begin writing in complete sentences. This means you begin every sentence with a capital letter and you end every sentence with an ending mark. Practice writing sentences at home just like we practice at school.

NEWS FOR PARENTS:

• I have set up an email distribution list so you can receive the weekly homework sheet and other important information. If you haven’t received any e-mails from me, you have given me an incorrect email address, or you haven’t given me an email address. If you would like to be put on that distribution list, email me asap at stephanie.barnes@anderson.kyschools.us

• We begin MAPS Testing (reading and math) next week in the computer lab.

• If your child has any books/magazines that he/she is no longer using, I will gladly take those off your hands. ( Please do not send in damaged/torn books or magazines.

• I have a prize box (cheap toys) and a treat box (candy) in my room. If you are at Wal-Mart, The Dollar Store or The Dollar Tree, and can pick up some things throughout the year, I would really appreciate it.

• Specials for next week…Monday – NO SCHOOL…LABOR DAY, Tuesday is art, Wednesday is library, Thursday is p.e. (must wear tennis shoes), and Friday is music.

Have a long, relaxing weekend,
