This objective requires employment services providers to develop sophisticated strategies for developing relationships with businesses. Job seekers with disabilities face numerous challenges, including the employers’ misperceptions of their capabilities. Because matching an employer’s needs to a job seeker’s abilities is a key feature for successful job placement, employers will need advice and support to provide flexibility when matching jobs to individual skill sets.Business relationship development or “employer engagement” is a function of marketing planning and the development of specific tools and strategies for job development. This encompasses business research, careful brand positioning, and a variety of tools, from publications to public speaking to social networking. Agencies must often realign their communications and approaches to be more business-specific and focused on the business benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities. The Ohio Employer Engagement Institute will select up to four agencies for advanced training. Representatives from each agency will receive in-person and remote training, and follow-up technical assistance from Training Resource Network and affiliated consultants. Some travel will be required for some in-person training events. Dale DiLeo () will be the lead consultant for the project. Tentative training dates have been set for an introductory webinar on October 13 and in-person trainings on October 20 and 21. The following are expected outcomes for participating agencies within the first year of the project:A comprehensive understanding of the agency’s marketing strengths and needs as they relate to supported employment.A consistent employer engagement brand and message.A communication document that will include benefits to employers who hire individuals with disabilities.A functioning business advisory committee that is inclusive of other providers in the area.An employer engagement database tool to track business contacts and their results. Please complete and submit a brief statement of your agency’s interest in receiving advanced training in marketing and employer engagement strategies and how this will benefit the people you serve.
