Math Update October 2014Math:For those of you who were unable to attend out MSP Workshop, here is a link to the intro presentation in which an overview of the grant requirements are provided: ss only.wmvAs a follow-up to the KSDE PreConference?-- I wanted to share with everyone some free resources with the TI 84 online graphing calculator and the TI-30XS that I recently received from a TI representative. Basically they offer a free 90 day trial that you can download onto computers as well as videos to help explain the functions built into the calculator. It is important to note that according to the rep they do not have the free trial available for tablets. Additionally, this free trial will only work once on any one devise. If a district would like to have the calculator available year round for their students they will need to contact TI to determine pricing options for their district. If you go to you will see a list of dealers that the district can call and discuss pricing options with.Free resources to support TI-84 ExamCalc: Link to TI-84 SmartView 90 day trial offer to TI-84 videos for online exams resources to support TI-30XS:90-day trial version of the TI-SmartView for TI-30XS email serves as an update to new information made available on our math website at KSDE. I will send out an email from time to time as a reminder to check the site often for information/resources related to the field of mathematics both in the state of Kansas as well as nationally. We also wanted to take this time to encourage you to share articles, resources, webinars…on the site by registering and then uploading them onto the New information page. It is our goal that this site become used often by those of you in the field as a means of staying informed as well as sharing thoughts and ideas with others in the state.BE SURE TO REGISTER ON THE SITE!?Information added recently:??HOME PAGE- 2014 Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics (KATM) Conference Greg Tang’s Workshop: Smart Math Strategies for Every Student and Fluency with FractionsNEW INFORMATION IN THE FIELD OF Mathematics PAGE - Student Assessment Inventory for School DistrictsNew Instructional Practice Guide ToolsCCSS Forward: State Resources and Success Stories to Implement the Common CoreStudents learn practical uses for algebraFree Webinar: Questioning to Support Formative AssessmentTechnology has big benefits for at risk studentsInstructional Alignment as a measure of teaching qualityGENERAL RESOURCES PAGE - Granite School District Math VocabularyBig MarkerBetter LessonsFederal Registry for Educational Excellence WebsiteCURRICULUM MAPS - Curriculum Planning & Mapping Math & Science Live StreamCurriculum Planning & Mapping Math Session PowerPointASSESSMENT INFORMATION - ? It must be used daily in instruction as an accommodation in order to be allowed on the assessment.Updated documents can be found at: as new information becomes available I will update this site.Revised Calculator PolicyStudents taking the mathematics assessment will be required to use the online TI-84 calculator provided by KITE.? Handheld calculators will not be permitted except as an accommodation documented on a student's IEP.? In high school a few items will require the use of functions on the graphing calculator to solve. The majority of items, however, for which a calculator is allowed are items that could be done on scratch paper. The calculator is a tool that should be used to help the student arrive at their answer. Students who are unfamiliar with a TI-84, yet have experience using other calculators, should be able to gain enough experience within the window before the test to do the required calculations. 2014-2015 Summative Assessment: Grades 3-8???????????????
