(from the Open Newswire): On Tuesday I came across an anti-war activist standing on traffic signal pole in Astor Place. A sign attached to the pole read, "WAR?" and on his

chest was written "All American." The "ONE WAY" signs were changed to read, "NO WAR."

Apparently he stayed up there for almost two hours before the NYPD took him down.

Eric, I hope you're reading this. I just wanted to add my support and let you know that I think you are FUCKING BRILLIANT!!!!!

It's not going to be easy for you; I have seen you discredited as "emotionally disturbed" by this emotionally disturbed country.

As long as someone in this madhouse retains enough sanity to do what you did, I think I can take one more breath, look myself in the eye while I brush my teeth this

morning, and make breakfast for my little boy.

Thank you, Eric.

"Real" - you're an idiot. He's not INSULTING christianity, he is merely using a powerful "symbol" in which to say something

Eric Wallach's actions symbolize what makes America the land of the free. While some may disagree with his actions, we cannot ever

dispute nor deny his RIGHT to protest. Take that away and we might as well fly the hammer and sicle.

Mr.Wallach is a patriot in the true and correct sense of the word. Lest we forget, this country was founded on the principles of

Sarcasim Alert!

[pic]I'm soooooooo glad the authorities have declared this man with his totally inappropriate unAmerican protest against a fair and just war to be emotionally

disregard the entire affair. There is nothing to see here. Move along. We'll take care of this dangerous man. He won't hurt you. Trust us. We have this protest thing

Naturally, the police will issue a statement to the press that the man, Eric Wallach, was "emotionally disturbed" and the press will run with it gleefully. That is

standard police procedure along with slapping him with the resisting arrest and disorderly person beefs. It is also standard procedure for the MSM press to portray

any protester as a kook.

Wallach's ingenious street theatre war protest was emotionally disturbing, but that was the point, wasn't it ? Wallach juxtaposed powerful symbols to make his

statement and the resultant image was provacative. But that is what art is supposed to do: move the emotions of the viewer.

Wallach is an artist and I applaud him.

RIDING UNTIL WE GET THERE

by Eric Wallach

NYC/IMC

[pic]

-waging peace in Manhattan -

For eight days I rode my bike with a big PEACE sign on the back wearing an upside-down American flag as a cape. I must have clocked over a hundred miles during the

convention randomly riding in circles around midtown confronting people, fellow protestors and the Republicans.

Most of the time when I made eye contact I held up my two-fingered peace sign and quietly waited for a response. When I got a positive sign back it felt as if we had

made an agreement that we will both act to restore peace and will live peacefully now in order to see peace in the future.

The majority of the people did not respond or would cursed at me. My only wish is that they had to think about their negative response as they saw the word PEACE on

the back of my bike. What do they want? War? Hopefully a seed of doubt was planted.

From time to time I sang my own Passover song, “Get Out of Egypt”. The lyrics include: “Bush lied, we cried. The news said he was right. The Constitution has died.

So get out and shout tonight.” Sometimes I sang “Here Comes the Sun” with one word changed in the opening lyrics: “Little darling, it seems like years since PEACE

has been here.”

Most of the younger cops nodded their support or raised their hands with a thumbs up or a peace sign themselves. Fortunately, no officers actually forced me to stop

as long as I kept the flow and didn’t get in the way. My heart goes out to all those patriots who were arrested and their bikes confiscated.

The fluidity and freedom of my bike enabled me to be anywhere and everywhere during the demonstrations. I was able to join the Green Dragon’s Paul Revere ride

announcing “The Republicans are coming!” and I was one of the 5,000 bikes in the Critical Mass ride. I walked my bike in the United for Peace and Justice march and

rode all over the city during the August 31st day of direct actions.

I saw a live board game of American Oligopoly that had our present Big Business political landscape represented and the Bush crew playing the Kerry party. I also

caught the Eyes Wide Open installation in Central Park with boots and shoes representing the troops and civilians killed in Iraq.

On the last night of the convention my bike ride rant boiled down to, “Hey delegates, news flash: Bush is lying to you!” One Republican man mouthed quietly to me

that he knew Bush was lying, to which I said, “When you go in your voting booth you don’t have to vote for him.” Before popping into a cab he whispered, “I’m not.”

I’m writing this all down not for self-congratulation but in the hopes that this may inspire other bikers to devise their own signs and songs. Even though the

convention is over, it is imperative that we continue our direct confrontation as often as possible. Let’s go to the tourist traps in the City and engage those

Americans that need to reconsider their vote.

The work isn’t over when we have so far to go. Let’s divide and conquer.

Power to the peaceful.

Not me! I'm 100% normal, an extremely well-adjusted American consumer. I drive an SUV and drink Starbucks coffee. I listen to Britney Spears and watch American Idol,

and never think about unpleasant thoughts like war, torture, poverty, corruption, or anything like that.

[pic]

Hey now, don't make fun of me, but I actually watch American Idol, it's my guilty pleasure since its the only one of the stupid "reality tv" shows I watch.

[pic]

It's alright. Don't make fun of me, but I actually do drive an SUV. A relative recently went abroad and gave it to me in her absence, so now I actually do drive an

SUV, to my great shame. But I only drive it sparingly, and still ride my bike and use the metro as my primary forms of transportation.

I also drink Starbucks coffee. My aunt likes to give out Starbucks gift cards for Christmas, so I end up drinking about 20 bucks worth of Starbucks coffee a year. I

remember when I got arrested at the RNC, when my arresting officer emptied my wallet and came across my Starbucks card, he said, "Hey, I thought you guys hated

Starbucks." I said, "Well, I do, but it's a gift card. Of course I'll drink free coffee." I wish I said something like, "Yeah well I thought you guys like donuts."

And like everyone else's concerns, I hope this is not a precursor for activity in Iran. Our boys will be truly and utterly fuckeded with the possibility of facing

comibined support of Iran, China, India and Russia. Please tell me even the BFEE isn't that stoopid and/or arrogant.

[pic]

I think there is a pretty good chance Bush will launch a war against Iran. It is completely insane, but so was invading Iraq. Everything these guys do is insane. The

reason I think they will go after Iran is because Iran has switched to the euro for its oil transactions with the EU, and is moving to set up a new oil exchange

market called the Bourse. Iran has very strong political and economic ties with Europe, and setting up this Bourse might lead to the euro supplanting the dollar as

the world's oil currency. This cannot happen.

The Bushies also have a very keen interest in making sure that the EU's diplomatic efforts do not succeed. If multilateralism proves successful, it will discredit

Bush's doctrine of pre-emptive war. This also cannot happen. I think we're going to war.

| |Yeah, good question. They found a weakness in Indymedia's server, got in, and made themselves admins. |

| |That gave them privileges to deface the site. |

| | |

| |I went to their "site." All locked down tight. Probably tracked that I came from here, which means they |

| | |

| |Their "site" seems to be a combo of animé and ratwing extremism. Skins on their forums are all |

| |black--interesting choice. They sure got real bent over Eric. Also seem to be "bent" on defending reepers|

| |vs. god-boy. Why, I wonder. Is this a new reep front to "attack and defend" the internets from libruls? |

| | |

| |How to fight back? Out these little fuckers? I have no server/web/hacker kung-fu at all. |

| | |

| |I don't know if "r00ted" vs "routed" means anything. Is it a "piracy" thing like "warez"? I see they |

| |can't spell "over sees." What's the Fifth Hope? What wicked ideology? Disagreement with the reep party |

| | |

| |Disorderly conduct I can understand, I would still fight it though because it is a crap charge that |

| |doesn’t over write the first amendment. The second one made me sit up though, what sort of… Obstruction |

| |of Governmental Administration? What the hell, that just makes all protests illegal in that one move. |

| |Besides how did you obstruct any administration at all? You weren’t hanged up inside city hall, blocking |

| |the doorway to a court room or something of the likes… |

| | |

| | |

| |Crap charges, fight them my friend and you should easily win. You have my best wishes for it. Some people|

| |think protesting is the whole fight, but it is only one of the many fights to come. If they get away with|

| |locking up protestors, then we won’t have a voice either. Fight all the charges and win, then bring |

| |around charges of your own. Hurt them financially and it will become better for the city to ignore |

| |non-violent protestors then arrest them en-masses for no charges or stupid ones like these. |

| | |

| |You have our support, and the support of nearly everyone who saw the protest. |

| |Ebwally, many thanks for expressing yourself. We lose our rights if we do not practice them. |

| | |

| |I applaud the concept, execution (oops), and the entire theatrical insight that the police were invited |

| |to participate in, in front of the world, as they ended your protest art (which was the beginning of it |

| |for us...). |

| | |

| |May the stone roll away from the charges made against you, and may we all have the courage to tell the |

| |world what we think. |

There are absolutely no provisions in the US code that could even be interpreted as allowing for the arrest of a healer or

If the Jews could get the Romans to string Jesus up because he was supposedly proclaiming himself "King of the Jews" and hung

out with militants who advocated the overthrow of the government (Judas - who turned him in BECAUSE Jesus wasn't militant

enough) then it could happen here.

This isn't the America we've been taught about in school Lone Pawn.

There was a man who wound up in Guantanamo Bay for over 3 years, was tortured and denied access to a lawyer until people on the

outside found out what was going on and screamed bloody murder, he may still be there.. but the kicker is - he was the wrong

guy. He was the room mate of the man they were looking for and they still never kept him for at least 3 years.

Another man was catching a plane and got hustled off from customs to a plane that took him to Saudi Arabia where he was tortured

for over a year and when they finally dropped him off at the Albanian border with nothing, his family had moved on thinking he

was dead.

These people did nothing, but our government authorized their torture and detainment without any due process.

Jesus could get in trouble these days. Believe it.

I totally love Jesus and I view what I learned about Christ, the real teachings, tell me He is a man of peace and healing.

We DEMs try to help those less fortunate and have a world that works for EVERYBODY to at least some degree and WE are APPAULED

that *ush is waging this war in OUR Name.

I think about the Christ I know who quietly knocks at the door to one's heart and knows every little secret about us and loves

us anyway - like a true friend. I believe HE loves EVERYONE, as the Son of God knows each name and face - including the Iraqis'

and HIS grievious rage that this war, this killing is being done in HIS name must be nearly unbearable.

But that is just my personal faith. I have felt what I believe to be the love of Christ and it is AGAPE (Greek for Unconditional

love that can heal everyone it touches) and I do NOT believe that the Christ I believe in would ever EVER allow the murder of

innocent children in HIS name without some accounting some day and some how to those who blaspheme Him in such a manner.

It is a message of Love and Compassion to remind folks that God so loved the world that He gave his only son, Jesus Christ to

die for our sins, NOT so we could go out and kill some more. It is a message to believers to search their hearts and really

figure it out --- WWJD?

not *for* the USA's sins. The only problem I have with this is his doing it at an intersection, and the potential for accidents

to occur from people paying more attention to him instead of the road. We Americans have enough trouble staying focused while

driving without people doing odd things outside our car windows to add to our already persistent inattention.

40. While it is true most rational people are "disturbed" by the war...

[pic]

To be disturbed enough to face the storm of opinion that would come of this either requires 12 pound balls or a spiritual manic

dellusion.

He is 33, he's got a passing resemblence and if he thinks he IS Christ, that could be a problem.

Still in a world this crazy, even if he is making this statement in the middle of a manic episode, he is still speaking the

truth to power and needs to be applauded.

After all, what (besides a country gone totally f***ing nuts in supporting an unjust war and ridiculing the peace makers) would

cause someone to have such an episode anyway?

Whether he is fully sane and more courageous or in a full blown manic episode, this man is saying what all of us know is true,

Christ did NOT authorize this war, contrary to popular opinion.

49. I Hope This New Graphic Helps This Guy Spread His Message!!!

[pic]

I just posted this new graphic to my site and sent it out to my ever growing e-mail distribution list with the following text:

"Check out this link for more shots of this one man protest in NYC. Great Action!

==========================================================

This came to my attention through a couple of posts at . Here is some of the text that was in one of the posts:

(from the Open Newswire): On Tuesday I came across an anti-war activist standing on traffic signal pole in Astor Place. A sign attached to the pole read, "WAR?"

and on his chest was written "All American." The "ONE WAY" signs were changed to read, "NO WAR."

Apparently he stayed up there for almost two hours before the NYPD took him down.

===========================================================

He inspired the following graphic! Hope it helps him spread his message far and wide!

End This War!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to you and glaucon for bringing this great protest to my attention!!!! [pic]

However, I doubt its effectiveness. To the average American (ie NOT a DU'er), this guy will look insane. As a representative of

the anti-war movement, I'm not sure that's what we should be going for. This will probably offend people of faith, who are often

leery about the war in the first place (excluding fudies, of course).

Maybe the guy is disturbed for doing this if he knows how dangerous this is -- but I doubt it.

Most people mistakenly believe that the Roman method of execution, crucifixion, killed through a slow tortuous process, such as

blood loss. It didn't. The nails through the hands and feet were just an added torture.

Crucifixion killed just as effectively when the prisoner was merely tied to the cross.

The method killed by putting the victim's body in an odd position that made it impossible to breath. Crucifixion victims died by

suffocation, not shock and blood loss.

A demonstrator like this might think he is safe because he did not use nails, etc, and just hung himself on the cross. He isn't.

I know this sounds like a dumb warning, but never tie yourself or anyone to a cross to make a graphic point or in a theatrical

presentation without expert supervision. You could end up dead very quickly, without anyone nailing your hands or feet, or

piercing your side with a Roman spear!

A picture like this has the potential, and I emphasise potential, to influence a generation.

We all do what we can in life, depending on our abilities, our talents and our inclinations. Some protest a grotesque war by

making a statement using symbols that are viceral to many Americans. Others whine and nitpick his actions; talents vary widely.

But one thing is certain: facile and ignorant claims he is an idiot only mimic the imperial voice donned by Bush and his

minions. It is the same Nixonian voice that desparately tried to ridicule the protests of the '60's.

Thus we sidle, like a divided clan, into more American and innocent Iraqi deaths, having learned nothing.

"Man In The Tree"

The man in the tree is staring at me

All of the blood dripping down

He says: where are you bound?

Said: I'm going to town to pawn my crown

And never come back here again

My lady in waiting is weaving a robe

Of silk and moonlight and now

And she never asks how

So pleasant a task she never asks

And she only listens to friends

The man at the store he looks at my crown

Listens to my sad tale

He says it never fails

If the crown is for sale, I'll give you some nails

But you can only use them on friends

The man in the tree was staring at me

As I passed by again on that day

He said I'd got in his way

Said: nails aren't the way to be free to stay

So I traded them all for the end

Went back to my lady in waiting and all of her friends

young girl at a Vietnam era peace rally.

There was a man came to our town

He wore a suit of red

He memorized with secret eyes

That he hid away in his head

He had a scar upon his head

Where there used to be a crown

But he sold his robes at the five and ten

And lived on the edge of town

That fall he showed us a magic leaf

That he could change to snow

He bought it partly with his grief

And partly with his soul

He scattered seeds in the alley way

He never seemed to rest

And when you went to ask him why

All he ever said was yes

He made a swan from waving grass

Beside a crystal shore

And a sunrise spun from broken glass

And many things wondrous more

But then his hands began to burn

When he heard the news from the war

When we cannot find each other he said

Then we can't run away any more

Next day with tears along his face

He passed us on the hill

No one thought to ask him to stay

And he knows that we never will

There was a man came to our town

He wore a suit of red

He memorized with secret eyes

That he hid away in his head

91.  RIDING UNTIL WE GET THERE, by Eric Wallach

I think this is the same guy.

waging peace in Manhattan

For eight days I rode my bike with a big PEACE sign on the back wearing an upside-down American flag as a cape. I must have

clocked over a hundred miles during the convention randomly riding in circles around midtown confronting people, fellow

protestors and the Republicans.

Most of the time when I made eye contact I held up my two-fingered peace sign and quietly waited for a response. When I got a

positive sign back it felt as if we had made an agreement that we will both act to restore peace and will live peacefully now in

order to see peace in the future.

The majority of the people did not respond or would cursed at me. My only wish is that they had to think about their negative

response as they saw the word PEACE on the back of my bike. What do they want? War? Hopefully a seed of doubt was planted.

From time to time I sang my own Passover song, “Get Out of Egypt”. The lyrics include: “Bush lied, we cried. The news said he

was right. The Constitution has died. So get out and shout tonight.” Sometimes I sang “Here Comes the Sun” with one word changed

in the opening lyrics: “Little darling, it seems like years since PEACE has been here.”

Most of the younger cops nodded their support or raised their hands with a thumbs up or a peace sign themselves. Fortunately, no

officers actually forced me to stop as long as I kept the flow and didn’t get in the way. My heart goes out to all those

patriots who were arrested and their bikes confiscated.

The fluidity and freedom of my bike enabled me to be anywhere and everywhere during the demonstrations. I was able to join the

Green Dragon’s Paul Revere ride announcing “The Republicans are coming!” and I was one of the 5,000 bikes in the Critical Mass

ride. I walked my bike in the United for Peace and Justice march and rode all over the city during the August 31st day of direct

actions.

I saw a live board game of American Oligopoly that had our present Big Business political landscape represented and the Bush

crew playing the Kerry party. I also caught the Eyes Wide Open installation in Central Park with boots and shoes representing

the troops and civilians killed in Iraq.

On the last night of the convention my bike ride rant boiled down to, “Hey delegates, news flash: Bush is lying to you!” One

Republican man mouthed quietly to me that he knew Bush was lying, to which I said, “When you go in your voting booth you don’t

have to vote for him.” Before popping into a cab he whispered, “I’m not.”

I’m writing this all down not for self-congratulation but in the hopes that this may inspire other bikers to devise their own

signs and songs. Even though the convention is over, it is imperative that we continue our direct confrontation as often as

possible. Let’s go to the tourist traps in the City and engage those Americans that need to reconsider their vote.

The work isn’t over when we have so far to go. Let’s divide and conquer.

Power to the peaceful.

This photo is very moving to me. It has the timeless quality of that naked Vietnamese child running down the street after having

been napalmed. It captures an emotion that is more like an undercurrent in today's American psyche. Just my two cents.

To those who have read this article,

Thank you for your kind words and wishes

I'm sure I'll be able to deal with my legal issues. I've been charged with Disorderly conduct (a violation) and Obstruction of

Governmental Administration in the second degree (a misdemeanor, piunishable up to a year in jail) - that's because I was

standing in front of the street signs. All my lawyer friends say I have a good case.

The event went off very well. The image was clear and the message got out.

The cops and the "criminals" I met in The System were respectful and supportive.

The story got on a couple of news channels and published in a couple of newspapers.

(FYI: The Associated Press and New York Times were notified but would not come downtown for just one person's protest ...)

See my neighborhood paper's account: ...

I hope as you do that those who want a future free of war will create their own actions. If one person takes a stab at the war

racketeers everyday, we'll certainly slow them down, til one day, the machine will stop.

I believe as you do.

We'll get there one day.

Til peace shines on

I'll remain

ripe for the fight

Sincerely,

Eric

Forward please.

Passion of the Protester; Renegade anti-war activist strikes a Jesus Christ pose in downtown Manhattan

Jesus in 2005 Anno Domini

   By Nick_NYC at 8:03 AM

[pic]

So 2000+ years after the antichrist of atheists died, we still speak of a man from the Middle East as if he is alive, alive anyway in the hearts and minds of every good atheist-hating christian. I remember days growing up in Hawai'i when I heard nary a peep about this historic figure, but remember whisperings that when he took off from the Middle East he had moved to America, to be where his future people would live.

I do think that christian missionaries and non-christians (who choose hell over believing in Jesus or the God of Jesus), often ponder, how horrible/great it would be too not know of Christ. Again many christian church-goers have heard of these places that exist that know not of God or Jesus Christ, and by christian I mean not Catholic and American and a Christian, (one of my pastor's words, not mine).

So a ponderous question that is often not spoken of in the many debates about American Christiandom, who would you curse if you didn't know God? Would you have a different Lord to take the name of, in vain? What would you celebrate in December? Who would you accept into your heart? If you killed people in distant lands, who would you say it was for?

The questions go on and on.

So low and behold, mockers of Jesus, appear in America as an ironic reminder that the spirit of Jesus has stretched or moved out of the small place of his birth, to lands that used to not know of such a man, or even what he originally looked like. The latest being an anti-war protest in Astor Place, New York City. What next Jihadists for Jesus? If anything this incident reported Wednesday, has people thinking, if anything, something for the Crhistians to think about, who might value Christianity as it was meant to be by it's founders, what would Jesus think of the wars waged today?

an anti-war activist standing on traffic signal pole in Astor Place. A sign attached to the pole read, “WAR?” and on his chest was written “All American.” The “ONE WAY” signs were changed to read, “NO WAR.”

Apparently he stayed up there for almost two hours before the NYPD took him down.

Jesus Christ Action Astor Place

[pic]

Jesus Christ Action Astor Place, originally uploaded by Green Biker.

Thanks to Fred Askew, street action photographer extraodinaire, we are able to witness yet another artistic powerful protest of one individual taking matters into his own hands. Yes that is a real person who decided to protest war by dressing up as Jesus and climbing on top of a street lamp post for all of Lower Manhattan to see. Around his waste is an American flag as his swaddling cloth and above his head is a small sign that says, "War?" This makes me think of the advertisement one automaker tried to come up with to infuse our savior in its marketing campaign by posing the simple question..."what car would jesus drive?" Makes you wonder in this age of oil war and enviromental destruction due to the automobile exactly what car would he drive? Or would the baredoot healer of the sick just walk or better ride a bicycle. Then you have to ask if we're going to bring Christ into all this, what would he think about going to war for oil? What country would Jesus bomb in our brand new crusade to fight the Turks?

I think it was a nice symbolic action. Props to the artist and props to Fred Askew taking the photos and putting them up on Indymedia...

also constantly check for great timely photos of everything New York.

Speaking of taking maters into their own hands...

I heard that yesterday 4/26 that there was a protester who "crucified" themselves in the middle of Astor Place (by the big cube) for over an hour yesterday.

It was a mock crucifixion, with a thorned crown of dollar bills.

The point was against Bush and the war.

He was arrested for disorderly conduct (I think) and resistance to arrest. Crowds of people were screaming that he did not resist arrest and hundreds took photos and home video.

Some might contest on his behalf that he did not resist arrest.

This is a very dramatic protest and I want to know more.

I was only blocks away and had no idea this was going on. If I had, I surely would have rushed over to see for myself.

Any links?

Who was this guy?

Any photos?

Iraq War Activist Stages Jesus Crucifixion

[pic]

"As a protest against the U.S. war in Iraq, Eric Wallach staged his own crucifixion at the Astor Pl. traffic triangle at Lafayette St. To crucify himself Wallach climbed on top of a crossing-signal sign and hung there about two hours. Passersby snapped cellphone photos of him near a altered one-way sign reading “No War.” When onlookers began to crowd the island, police moved them off and three officers took Wallach down, put him on a backboard and loaded him into a police vehicle. Wallach, who also goes by the moniker Radical Jew 33, is a freelance theater artist and self-described provocateur. “I just can’t stand the war,” he said."

Click each picture for two different links to the story...

Nice idea. I especially like the American flag nappy he's wearing. Could this be the ultimate modern American-Christian symbiosis? Images of urban Jesuses strutting their stuff down anti-war catwalks across the globe spring into my mind. Messiah chic is so in this season.
