John Doe has been named director of service for Duke University and Health System, Dr. Dean, vice-president of service and customer relations at Duke University and Health System announced Thursday.

Doe will officially assume his new duties March 3, 2003. He currently serves as manager for customer service at University Hospital in San Francisco, CA. “Duke is fortunate to have John Doe assume this leadership position,” Dr. Dean said. “His years of experience in the service industry will help guide Duke in the right direction. With his impressive qualifications and high praise from colleagues, I am convinced that John will have a positive impact on our organization.”

Mr. Doe’s selection comes after a national search following the departure of Susan Smith. Ms. Smith is now assistant vice president of service at New York Hospital.

In his new position, Mr. Doe will be responsible for overseeing the management of administrative processes and customer service quality standards for the University and Health System. In addition to his operational responsibilities, Doe will be a key leader in implementing a new quarterly customer service assessment asking for feedback on a range of processes and services provided by Duke.

Mr. Doe holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from Harvard University and a master of business degree from Stanford. Doe is a member of the National Institute for Service and Practitioners.
