PLEASE USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE APPLICATION FORM

The MPS is an exciting and interesting organisation to work for; there are constant challenges and opportunities which enable you to put theory to practice whilst gaining some great experiences.

The Programme and Project Support unit is a vibrant, small and friendly team. There are always exciting projects going on and because the unit works closely within the centre of the MPS you get insight into other exciting projects and changes that are happening. I have been given a lot of responsibility and am involved in several different projects including retained organisations and status dogs. I am also the editor for the departmental newsletter. I have learnt a lot about myself in the short time I have been at the MPS and the opportunities I have been given are priceless!

I would highly recommend doing a placement year as part of your degree; you will have the opportunity to develop as a person and as a professional. I feel I can use my new knowledge and experiences to help me in my final year and my career. If you are successful in your application you will be working with an amazing team in a great organisation and will have a fantastic year! Good luck!

Working in the Strategic Research and Analysis Unit has made me realise that there is more to policing London than I first thought. The job has enabled me to see the challenges the organisation faces over the next few years and I have had the fantastic opportunity to work on projects that will identify these challenges. One such project involved analysing how London was going to change over the next decade and how these changes will have an impact on policing.

Whilst working at the MPS I had the chance to look around the Olympic Site, which I would not have been able to do if I was not part of the MPS. As well as this visit, I have attended formal training courses, which have allowed me to develop important skills further.

The Strategic Research and Analysis unit are a friendly team who have been very supportive of me during my placement year. The team are incredibly welcoming and made me feel like part of the team very quickly!

The unit is an interesting, friendly and valuable place to work to gain experience in many different aspects of the MPS. I have been able to get involved in numerous projects, for example working on corporate surveys such as the Public Attitude Survey (PAS), working on other surveys such as the Rape Satisfaction Survey, being able to attend interviews with ex-offenders for a police initiative evaluation and many more exciting elements.

Furthermore, the placement has helped me to develop many skills and gain new ones such as my knowledge of SPSS which has grown tremendously, my written skills which have been developed further through writing reports and reviews, development of team building skills through everyday tasks and more knowledge gained of the MPS itself which I was previously unaware of. This is only a handful of the skills which I feel have I have obtained and enhanced from working within the SRAU.

I believe this is a fantastic placement opportunity, with the chance to work with an excellent team who will make you feel very welcome within a great organisation. Good luck with your application.
