GRADING:
Grades will be based on a total point system whereby students can earn points in the following ways:
a. Class behavior
b. Homework
c. Lab work/reports
d. Quizzes
e. Tests
f. Reports/Projects
g. Extra Credit * [must be turned in 1 week prior to the end of that marking period]
(* students may get a maximum of 5 extra credit points per marking period)
HOMEWORK:
Homework assignments will always be on the right side of the chalkboard. Students should write down the assignment as soon as they come into class. Assignments may or may not be collected for credit that day but expect them to be checked. Homework is a very important part of your grade and your overall understanding of concepts in this course. Homework must have your name on it whether it is turned in or just checked at the desk. Homework must be in complete sentences when asked for. TAKE HOMEWORK SERIOUSLY! IF ABSENT - YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING AND DOING THE REQUIRED WORK. I WILL NEVER CHASE ANYONE DOWN TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHAT ASSIGNMENTS THEY MISSED!
[Do not do homework in your notes notebook! It may be collected!]
QUIZZES:
Quizzes will be given roughly once per week. The information may come from required reading, films or lecture material. Most quizzes will be announced, however, there may be occasional unannounced quizzes. Most quizzes will be 15-25 points.
TESTS:
Major tests will be announced at least (3) days, and usually more, before they are given. If possible, a study guide will be given out and gone over in class before each exam. It is the students responsibility to ask questions about material he/she does not understand. Most tests will be 50-100 points.
LAB WORK:
There may be certain subjects that will have lab work associated with them. Lab reports will be turned in following each laboratory exercise unless you are told differently.
CHEATING:
Cheating will not be tolerated in any form whatsoever in my classroom. Students who are caught cheating will be given an immediate zero (0) for that Quiz, Test or assignment. Parents/guardians will be notified when possible.
CLASS BEHAVIOR GRADE:
Every student starts each marking period with 20 points. You may lose points for the following…
a. Gum chewing/candy 5 points
b. No book 5 points
c. No book cover 3 points
d. Not prepared for class 3 points
e. Classroom disruption 5-20 points [depending upon the nature of the disruption]
ABSENCES:
Absences are a very common occurrence but there are negatives that go along with being absent from school. You are responsible for all of the work you miss during your absence. This may include…
a. Notes
b. Worksheets
c. Reading
d. Book work
e. Test or Quiz
You need to see me about any missed work as soon as you return to school. The only thing I will chase you down to complete are Test and/or Quiz makeups. A piece of advice…When getting makeup notes from a classmate, make sure that person takes good, complete notes!!
