SUPPORTERS OF SUPERINTENDENT MYRNA LOY CORLEY CELEBRATE HER REHIRE WITH VOLUNTARY CUT IN PAY, BUT NO

CUT IN RESPONSIBILITIES EAST CLEVELAND - In a 4-1 vote Monday night, the East Cleveland City Schools' Board of

Education rehired its longstanding superintendent, Myrna Loy Corley. Mrs. Corley will be one of roughly 150 superintendents statewide in a retire/rehire mode. She will be taking a voluntary significant cut in pay, but no cut in her duties.

The four-year contract and voluntary cut is expected to save the school district in excess of $300,000.

"In our current superintendent, we have a person who has literally dedicated her entire career to this community as a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. She remains fully vested in seeing our District continue to make the strides her leadership has fostered. Finding leaders who can navigate the unique challenges of operating a school district is a difficult task. In our case, we have someone who appreciates the unique challenges facing our school district and our community," said Una Keenon, board president. Superintendent Myrna Loy Corley successfully ushered the East Cleveland City School District through multiple capital construction projects that have resulted in the vast improvements and reconstruction of our facilities. Her leadership brought this District successfully out of Fiscal Emergency by making hard choices and difficult cuts year after year that spared, to the best of her ability, the core of the educational programming. Her vision

1

for positive working relations with the teachers and support staff, which is shared by union

leadership, has fostered labor union peace and positive collaboration through successful

implementation of the Interest Based Bargaining negotiations model. Her educational vision has

resulted in exciting partnerships with area businesses and industry as well as the East Cleveland

Public Library. She has also overseen the implementation of innovative and groundbreaking

programs like Provost Scholars with Case Western Reserve University, STEM Labs, the Summer

Cultural Arts Program, new career and technology programs including Construction Technology

and Performing Arts, the 3estar Program, Chinese language program, dancing classrooms, peer to

peer tutoring, and student mediation and school court programs. The Superintendent's wellness

programs have been models for other Cuyahoga County school Superintendent's interested in

similar programs.

Shaw High School's graduation rate is 72.40%. Steady progress in this rate has been a direct result

of the Superintendent's leadership and our teacher's efforts and is the highest it has been since

before 1987. The high school has shown such significant improvement that it has been recognized

by the Ohio Department of Education. Consider just a small handful of facts about our students:

? East Cleveland City Schools' Mock trial team placed in the sweet 16 among 329 competing teams from across the state.

? Eight Shaw High School students have been selected to participate in a prestigious Summer program in China called the Chinese Bridge Summer Camp.

? 50 members of the Shaw class of 2015 partnered with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections through our Future of Democracy program for training as student poll workers.

? The Shaw High School Band led the 2015 Mardi Gras in New Orleans this year becoming the first High School Band from a Northern State to do so.

? Shaw High School graduates completed over 4000 hours of service to our community including providing baskets to families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Service to local nursing homes and service to the Cleveland Food Bank.

? The Shaw class of 2015 amassed an impressive $2,070,620 in scholarships. ? All of the District's elementary schools met the overall progress measure for annual student growth; with two

schools receiving A's.
