This class will help participants assess and improve the ways their church attracts people, welcomes them, does follow-up and brings them into the church family.?EFFECTIVE VISITATION: The Older Adult and You – Presented by The Rev. Jane D. McCarthy, Ordained Deacon in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, and Chaplain, Wesley Enhanced Living on behalf of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Council on Older Adult Ministries – This workshop will help participants gain necessary skills for effectively visiting with older adults. The learning will be acquired through presentation of information, discussion, and via experiential exercises. ELECTRONIC/SOCIAL/MULTI-MEDIA – Presented by the Rev. Bob Amundsen, Pastor, Bensalem UMC – This workshop will look at four areas (webpages, email, Facebook, and Connection Cards) of church communication, which, when used correctly, create a larger social presence in our community, generate greater audience attention and participation, and attracts and retains visitors to our churches. GRANT WRITING – Presented by the Rev. Yvette Davis, Pastor, Grace UMC, Harrisburg; Chair, Northeastern Jurisdiction Urban Steering Network of the General Board of Global Ministries; member, National Advisory Committee, United Methodist Community Developers Program; former Foundation Center librarian and trainer – This workshop will be presented in two parts. Part 1 (morning session) will explore the components of grant proposals for both foundation and denominational grants. Part 2 (afternoon session) will present the opportunity for participants to work in teams to draft the key components of a grant proposal, using information learned in the morning session. LEARNING THINGS IN A GOOD WAY: The Journey Toward Healing with Native Americans in our Communities – Presented by Ms. Sandi Cianciulli, member of Bethel Hill UMC, Lansdale; Chair, Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Committee on Native American Ministries (CONAM); and Vice President, Northeastern Jurisdiction Native American Ministries Committee and Rev. Suzanne Wenonah Duchesne, MPhil, elder, Ph.D. student at Drew Theological School, and member of CONAM – Are you interested in learning about Native Americans and the Methodist Church? The Act of Repentance is coming - do you know what to do? Has your church ever celebrated Native American Sunday? This workshop will guide participants through how to construct a Native American Sunday using available online resources. Who should attend? - Pastors, worship leaders, Native American Ministry representatives, persons serving on outreach, missions, and church & society committees, and anyone interested in Native American Ministries. Cookie Frances Lee Bracey, retired elder – The aim of partnering with the local school is to produce good schools in every neighborhood. Since the 1980s, Rev. Bracey has served in this community outreach in all of her pastoral appointments in the Baltimore-Washington and Eastern Pennsylvania Conferences. This workshop will inspire you to become a partner with a school in your parish community. S/PPRC – STAFF/PASTOR PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE – Presented by The Rev. Dr. Alfred S. Maloney, retired elder and former District Superintendent – This workshop should challenge participants to go beyond some?"notions" about being a member of the S/PPR Committee. It?should challenge one’s understanding of the importance of this ministry of leadership and?the impact on?the pastoral and spiritual life of the church. First year or seasoned members of the Committee can actively participate in sharing in the discussion with equal understanding of the need for their gifts?in this ministry. After reading?all of paragraph 258.1 and 2 of The United Methodist Discipline (2012),?each participate will be prepared to share in the discussions?of this ministry of leadership. This workshop will be presented in two parts. Part 1 is the morning session, followed by Part 2 in the afternoon. STEWARDSHIP/FINANCE (Including Electronic Giving) – Presented by East District Superintendent the Rev. Tracy L. Bass – When people become members of a local church, they promise to uphold the church with “prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.” The ministry of stewardship is concerned with the appropriate employment of the fruits of that pledge throughout the ministries of the church. This workshop will assist participants in understanding the work of this ministry area through growing vibrant, lifelong, faithful stewards; building a culture of generosity in the church; relating stewardship to the congregation’s full ministry; and evaluating, measuring, and tracking growth. THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF BEING A CHURCH TRUSTEE – Presented by Mr. James Duckett, member of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Board of Trustees and Certified Lay Minister, assigned as Pastor, Johnson Memorial UMC – Participants will interact with one another on their key duties as a Trustee. The presenters will introduce the forms that the Annual Conference requires, the duties and responsibilities of this important church board, and the challenges that all churches face. Bring your questions and willingness to resource each other. YOUTH MINISTRIES: Does Yours Speak to Your Youth? – Presented by Mrs. Denise Harris, Yardley UMC Youth Minister and member of the Conference Council on Youth Ministries – This workshop will focus on building and sustaining a youth ministry that meets teens where they are and provides opportunities for them to go deeper in their Spiritual Journeys.
