“High School Students Meet for Leadership Training”

Springfield, IL (October 7, 2019) – The Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) has teamed up with State Farm Insurance Companies to provide approximately 200 high school students training on how to be positive, effective leaders in their homes, schools and communities. The training which was held on Sunday, October 6, and Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Northfield Inn/ Conference Center, Springfield, IL emphasized leadership skills, community service and the State Farm Neighborhoods of Good campaign.

The students received leadership training from Eddie Slowikowski of Bolingbrook, IL. The chapter members focused on their Program of Work for the year and set goals for their FCCLA Week Activities, Community Service and involvement with the State Farm Neighborhoods of Good Campaign. Each FCCLA chapter will conduct projects in their home communities and high schools during the current school year using the information that they gathered at the training. Those in attendance were also privileged to hear from Kendyl Wear from the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. Mrs. Wear shared the impact that Illinois FCCLA could have with their fundraising efforts for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Central Illinois. The community service project for the weekend was a Household Items Drive for the Ronald McDonald Houses. Over 260 items were donated for the project including packages of paper towels, cleaning supplies, paper plates, etc.
