Work Lead / Programmer:

I worked on many in-house financial applications – new development, support and maintenance and the mix. I left due to family and life issues that had to be addressed.

Retired from September 1, 2017 to October 15, 2021 – 34 years of service to the taxpayers of Texas !

August 2000 – September 2017 - Texas General Land Office, Austin, Texas – Retired 8/2017

Webmaster / Senior Programmer / eCommerce / SQL Server:

For the last 16 years, utilized extensive ColdFusion, web server and database design skills ( full stack ) to develop both internal and external DHTML applications using ColdFusion, jQuery. Bootstrap, XML. Most notably are GLO’s online Map Store, Land Grants search and eCommerce sites. The eCommerce sites now total more than 15, and have brought more than $7.5M to the agency. I engaged with IT management to extend our technology infrastructure. Am heavily involved in ColdFusion and SQL Server database implementations, assisting the network development team with CF installation, upgrade, and configuration in redundant server environments. I solely developed several internal and external foundation class apps for GLO. I am also involved in agency capacity and strategic planning of both physical and virtual environments. Working with our IT directors and agency CISSP, am involved in the application of security measures and have implemented form scrubbers and other security constructs that have defended more than 15,000 hack attempts. Monitored web/CF server performance and address issues with slow loading pages, long running queries and database tuning. Involved in webserver/network/database penetration testing, hardening and mitigation. Involved either as primary or backup in all electronic payment processes that deal with e-commerce. Mentored junior programmers and sporadically managed small to medium projects from requirements, database creation/assimilation, testing and deployment. Assisted DBA staff as needed.

Web Project Manager / Programmer:

Designed, developed and deployment agency applications wrapped in browser-based solutions. Developed all flavors of internal applications including shopping cart applications and e-commerce solutions for both the agency intranet and extranet customers. Oversee all internet development, following guidelines for ADA compliancy, privacy and public information legislation, as well as following 'best practices' methodologies. Performed stress tests, test and use cases, and penetration testing.

August 1983 - 2000 Texas General Land Office, Austin, Texas

Database Administrator:

10 years: Configured all Windows Servers running Microsoft SQL Server (thru 2012) , NT Servers running Sybase SQL Server, Novell servers running the Sybase NLM. Perform installation, upgrades, maintenance, backup strategies, monitor performance, and tune all databases, database servers and operating systems in all environments. Maintain and execute maintenance & support agreements with vendors. Provide support to developers by applying SQL Server functionality to business rules and to ensure maximal data integrity through data adherence to business rules. Maintain 24 x 7 availability of all database systems and quickly resolve issues. Used queries and DTS to extract data (ETL) into other consumable data sources (JSON, XML, etc.). Well versed in stored procedures, triggers, rules, data binding to defaults, etc. I am also excellent at debugging issues between front and backend Java, MS Access or other application systems through the various network layers.

Honorable Mentions:

Utilizing Cold Fusion, I developed web pages by which our support department can evaluate SQL Server status to verify SQL database availability. Provided sole NT Server network support for 5 years prior to TGLO hiring an M.C.S.E. Provided mainframe system/OS support for 13 years. As acting Director of Applications Development, assisted with the yearly Information Systems budget, the Biennial Operating Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, Year 2000 Conversion/Contingency Plan, Legislative Appropriations Request, special Legislative requests, open records requests received from the general public, contractual agreements with vendors and other agencies. Created multiple ‘toolbox apps’ for use in detecting system problems and assimilating server data. Also, I am a darn nice guy.
