East Aurora Community Education, where the brightest minds are still learning

The Board of Education is committed to the District goal of continuous learning throughout life. The Community Continuing Education (adult education) Program ensures the availability of learning opportunities for people of all ages in diverse settings and at a variety of times.

In three continuous terms throughout the year, we offer programs including academic offerings, driver training, fitness programs, self-improvement, art and music, business and related technology.

Our classes are self-supporting, with easy registration online, in person or by mail. We welcome the public to submit ideas and course proposals at any time to Lgervasi@.

The second term runs from October 1st-January 31st with 35 courses offered, and hundreds of online courses that vary in length and tuition. Please call 687-2311 with questions.

General Information:

• All course information, including day, time, start and end dates, fees, and holiday or school closing dates, is included within each course description.

• If regular day school is closed due to weather or another emergency, afterschool and evening classes in district schools are suspended that afternoon and evening as well. If day school is open, but it becomes necessary to cancel evening classes, a decision will be made by 3:00 PM. All closings, day or evening, are announced on the website at , where you also may register for email or text notification of closings (click on REGISTER in the upper right page bar and follow instructions), or on WGR, WGR TV, WIBV, WNED, WBUF, WHTT, WYRK, WKBW, WUFO or WNSA. Please do not call the office for closing information.

• Classes are held at: Main Street School, 430 Main Street (MS); East Aurora High School, 1003 Center Road (HS); Parkdale Elementary (PE), 141 Girard Avenue; or at a designated location off school property. You may call the office at 687-2311 for directions or a map.

Registration:

• Open to all persons age 21 and older. Students in the ninth grade and beyond may enroll in some courses not provided in the regular school program; call for details.

• Registration will not be confirmed by our office; please assume your course will begin as planned unless you are notified otherwise.

• To register online, follow the links at adulteducation and click Online WEBSTORE to register and pay online securely with a credit card or electronic check.

• To register by mail, send a check or money order payable to EAST AURORA PUBLIC SCHOOLS to the East Aurora Continuing Education Office, 430 Main Street, East Aurora, NY 14052. Check or money order must accompany registration. Additional registration blanks are at adulteducation.

• To register in person - the Continuing Education office has a drop box located at the Main Street School in the business office, and available from 8 AM-4:00 PM on regular school days, accepting payment by cash (exact amount), check or money order.

Fees - see individual listings:

• All fees must be paid at time of registration.

• Unless we cancel a course due to insufficient registration, fees will not be refunded or applied to another session or course for any reason after registration. We will notify you before the scheduled start of any course that is cancelled due to insufficient registration, and refund your fee. Individual teachers may try to reschedule class sessions missed due to emergency closing, but we cannot refund for a missed session.

• Non-residents - Additional fee per course of $12 for non-East Aurora School District residents, except as indicated. Residents have priority on waiting lists for courses with limited enrollment. Note: When registering for more than one daily session of the same course, you need to pay the non-resident fee on only one of those registrations per trimester (i.e., fitness classes that meet M and/or W), except those that note “no discounts apply.”

• Senior discounts: The Board of Education recognizes the contributions of East Aurora District resident Senior Citizen taxpayers with a discount of 40% off full fee for regular courses; exceptions (“no discounts apply”) are noted in individual course descriptions. You must be 62 years of age or over AND a resident of the East Aurora School District. No discounts apply to jointly sponsored programs, courses specifically excluded, or lab fees.

Dance yourself into shape and lose yourself in music! This dance-fitness party combines half an hour of exotic rhythms such as salsa, tango, belly dance, and reggae ton, along with half an hour of high energy musical hits from yesterday and today that are sure to get you moving and grooving. Zumba®Gold #648-2 Lisa Brown

Zumba®Gold is based on the same dance moves used in the original Zumba class. The gold class, however, is less intense, with dance routines designed for beginners and older adults using modified movements. Mindful eating is simply being fully present while we eat. It is not directed by charts, pyramids, tables, or scales; rather, by your own inner experience as it unfolds moment by moment. Through mindfulness practices we will become more aware of our bodies, hearts, and minds. Learning through our senses, we will touch in on our curious and playful nature as we investigate our responses to food and our inner cues to hunger and satisfaction. Learning the art of letting go of self critical judgements, we begin to experience more balance, choice, and wisdom- enhancing out capacity to transform our whole relationship with food and the quality of our lives. *The cost of the class includes food samples and handouts.

Spanish for the Elementary Years #111-2 Culture Kids

Get a head start on the language by joining us for an educationally oriented curriculum that is specifically designed for the K-4 student to learn the Spanish language. This unique and exciting program features foundation vocabulary introduced through games, singing and fun activities. Students are able to compound words and begin forming simple sentences. Early introduction increases the student's ability to absorb rather than translate the language. Computer and website training, personal fulfillment, language, art, test preparation, legal studies and business management ­ hundreds of East Aurora Continuing/Community Education classes online link you to experts while you work on your own schedule at your home computer. These exciting courses are perfect for busy people, those with specific subject learning needs or those who can’t find a traditional class to fit their schedule.

To find out if online learning is for you, go to eastaurora and take a look. If you’d like to give it a try, follow the e-mail link to register through East Aurora Continuing/Community Education. You’ll get complete instructions and a password to log on. New sessions begin on the second Wednesday of each month and run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when the lesson is released. Instead, you can take up to ten days to complete each lesson after it is released. If enrolling in a series of courses, we recommend spacing the start date for each course two months apart.

No discounts apply; see web site for individual course fees. Computer requirements: Internet access with e-mail. Students under 21 years of age may register for online classes with parental permission.
