Creating a Multi-Background/Multi-Pose Green Screen Proof

Creating a Multi-Background/Multi-Pose Green Screen Proof

From Proof Sheet to Render

This outlines the steps involved to create a Multi-Background Proof Sheet for Green Screen with 1 or more images on multiple backgrounds.

Since many studios/labs are offering quite a number of backgrounds to select from, it is recommended that you create a graphic in Photoshop (or a similar program) that contains ALL desired backgrounds that you want to give as an option on one sheet, as well as your pricing/ordering information. This makes creating the template in ProServices a breeze since you will add only one external graphic as opposed to one for each background offered. This will help the rendering process go faster, too.

1. Create Your Proof Sheet Service In Pro Services

• With your Green Screen job open in Image Match

• Go to Print>Pro Services

• Select “New”

• Your service set up window with tabs will pop up.

• On the page tab, set your overall proof sheet size, and set your cells to 1 column and 1 row.

• On the margins tab, set your margins to “0”

• On the header/footer tab, make sure there are none selected (in most cases)

• On the Sheet tab, select a sort (it doesn’t matter at this point which one as you will be sorting the print order when you send the proofs through Riplynx)

• Up the in templates section, click “Edit” next to the Template #1

• This will open up the template builder

• Click on Edit>Template Size, Custom

• Enter the width of your proof sheet; OK

• Enter the height of your proof sheet; OK

• Click Edit>Add Object>Image

• Name the object something logical such as “proof sheet”

• Click Ok

• On the Image Tools box that pops up, double click in the white space next to “filename”

• Browse to find the graphic you built in Photoshop that contains all the pricing, order info and backgrounds.

• Click Open

• Using the white square “handles” on the corner of the graphic, stretch it to fit over the entire area that is defined by the thick black lines (make sure to keep it just inside or right to those lines, not past them).

• Go to Edit>Add Object>Image

• Name this Pose 1, click OK

• On the Image Tools box, double click the white space and this time select the “.8crop.bmp” file and click open. This will be your “placeholder” image.

• Just below the filename area on the Image Tools box, click on the data field drop-down and select “Image Name”

• Now drag the sample image and stretch it to fit over the first sample background that is on your proof sheet graphic. You want to stretch it so that it fits exactly over the background, covering it completely.

• Now go up to the buttons at the top of the template builder and click on the one that has two pieces of paper on it (this is the “copy” button). This will copy the sample image you just placed (as long as you still have it selected). Name this one Pose 2, click OK. The copy will be directly over the first one.

• Click on it and drag it to fit over the second sample background on your proof sheet, again covering it completely.

• In the Image Tools box, click on the data field drop down and select “Custom2”

• Click the copy button again, name this one Pose 3, click ok.

• Drag this new copy (which is directly over your second image) to cover the third sample background on your proof.

• In the Image Tools box, click on the data field drop down and select “Custom3”

• Repeat these steps for as many backgrounds and/or poses that you wish to place, making sure you change the data field drop down to reflect the next sequential custom field.

• When you are finished placing your images over the backgrounds, you will use the same process to add any data layers to the template, by using the Edit>Add Object>Text selection and setting any static text and/or selecting the data fields from which you want the data pulled (ie First Name, Last Name, Grade, Teacher, etc)

• Go to File>Save As

• Name the template “GS Multi BG Proof Sheet” or choose your own descriptive name.

• Go to File>Exit (you don’t have to save it again if you just did the “save as” function)

• You will be returned to the ProServices tabs window.

• In the Template #1 dropdown, select any random template (your new one won’t show here yet)

• Click Save, Ok, then Exit

• Go to File>Service Setup, Click the Sheet tab

• Now, click the dropdown for Template #1 and select the “GS Multi BG Proof Sheet.tem”

• Click Save, Ok, then Exit

• Go to Templates>Reset Template Size, Select the template and click OK

• Using your mouse, adjust the placement of the template so that it fits within the thick black lines that define the service dimensions.

• Click File>Exit

2. Next, add the proof sheet to your PUD

• In ImageMatch, go to File>Preferences, Packages Tab

• Click “Config” next to the PUD (about halfway down on right side of window)

• This takes you into your units configuration window.

• Click “Add”

• From the unit type dropdown, select “Service”

• In the description space, type “GS Multi BG Proof Sheet”

• Short description can be “GS Multi”

• Down a little further in the “Service Setup” section, click the button with the three dots next to the white space under “Service”

• Browse to find the “GS Multi BG Proof Sheet.srv” file and click “Open”

• Go to File>Save Unit Definitions

• Go to File>Exit

3. Now create a package that contains ONLY this proof sheet service

• You should still be in the preferences window on the packages tab.

• Go up to the “Program” section at the top and click the “Config” button to the right of the prm file path.

• Once in your Program Configuration Window, click “Add” on the right side

• Type a Description for your proof package “GS Multi BG”

• Type a title (optional)

• Type a logical Map # such as “P” for proof, or GSP for green screen proof.

• Click “Add Unit”

• Scroll down to select the GS Multi BG Proof that you just added to the PUD file

• Click OK

• Click OK again. You will get a message saying that the Program needs to be saved.

• Click OK, then OK again, then OK one more time to exit the preferences window

4. Give everyone a proof package

• Go to Data>Replace Data

• For the “Source Field” select Packages (this procedure assumes there is no data in any of your records for the Packages field)

• Do not type anything to the right where it says “Text”

• For the “Destination Field” select Packages again

• This time, type GSP-1 in the text area

• Select the very first option in the lower section “Search Source Field for Source Text and fill Destination Field with Destination Text.”

• Click Search, click OK, then OK again, then click Exit

5. Set up your Proof Sheet Conversion

• Go to Data>Proof Sheets

• Click the box next to “Enable Proof Sheet Conversion”

• Click the “Select None” button

• Click the Field that you will be using to link the multiple poses together. Typically this will be either “Record Number” or “Student ID” or “First Name, Last Name”

• On the right, for the Pose 2 dropdown, make sure “Custom2” is selected.

• Click the “More” button at the bottom if you have more than 2 poses.

• Click the dropdown for Pose 3 and select “Custom3”

• Click the “More” button for as many poses as you have in the job that you want linked together for each subject. Select the next sequential custom field in the dropdown (ie Custom4, Custom5, etc). The custom fields you are selecting here correspond to the custom fields you set in the Pro Services Proof Sheet template for your multiple images.

6. Set up your images for printing on the proof sheet

• The first thing you need to do is create a transparent png file in Photoshop (or similar program) that contains no graphics. An 8x10 at 300 dpi is sufficient. Save this to the same location you save all your backgrounds so it is easy to find.

• In Image Match, go to Images>Green Screen

• Click “Default Settings” This should drop out all of the green (if it does not, call tech support for info on how to get it to drop out more completely).

• Click “Apply color to all records”

• Click the “Browse” button

• Find the transparent png file you created earlier, click Open

• Click “Apply Background”

• Click “Apply to All”

• Exit Green Screen

7. Tag Pose 1 Only

• Go to Data>Tagging>Tag Pose

• Enter 1 and click OK

• This tags all the data records and images that are considered the first pose for each subject

• Print your Proofs

• Go to Print>Send Packages to Riplynx

• Hit “CTRL-T” to select tagged images only

• Click “Print”

• Open Riplynx and your proofs will be rendered will the multiple poses on multiple backgrounds.

Notes:

You can use the same proof sheet set up concept to place on one image on many backgrounds for proofing. Just ignore the portions that discuss multi-poses. You can repeat the original image layer for as many times as you want over the backgrounds.

If you want to create multiple crops from a single image, call tech support for instructions.
