Learning Checks: Learning Checks are unannounced, are graded for accuracy, and are included as part of the homework grade.Materials Needed: Science Binder (includes divides and notebook paper)Pencils, Pens, and HighlightersColored Pencils/MarkersIndex CardsCalculatorHomework Policy: Complete all assignments on time and homework will be given and reviewed regularly, and all assignments will be posted in the classroom and/or on the blog. Students should attempt homework using class notes and examples with the intent of mastering the assigned material. Depending on the assignment, homework may be checked for completion and/or accuracy.Late Work: Any assignment turned in late will be given half credit. Assignments are considered late if not turned in at the beginning of the period on the due date.Absences/Make-up work: It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teachers about make up work once they have returned from an absence. Make up work may be requested from the front office once a student has been absent for three consecutive days. It is recommended to check teacher blogs with any absences.Student work is not provided early. Teachers will assign the grade of zero for any work missed. When work is completed (as scheduled by the teacher), the grade will be updated.Extra Credit: (if applicable)One extra credit opportunity will be given during the 1st semester. Students are expected to check the blog each night (even when absent), if at all possible.Student Expectations Be on time for class.Be prepared for class; complete all reading assignments and bring your supplies to class.Be respectful and responsible to your classmates – don’t interfere with the learning of others.Follow all safety procedures and rules during labs. Unsafe behavior will result in a zero for that activity. You are responsible for the signing and returning of a lab safety contract.Please remember that attendance is essential for success. Eighth grade Science is a very fast paced, active class. A lot of material will be missed each day the student is absent. Students who copy another student’s work on ANY assignment/test will earn a zero on that assignment/test. The student whose work was copied will also earn a zero on the assignment/test. Do not give anyone your work because it could put your grade in jeopardy. ................
