IPS News

Spanish feed:

- (Spanish language news)

English feed:

- (Latin America news)

- (Caribbean news)

- (Economy news)

Notes: IPS has several English RSS feeds and one Spanish feed. It updates frequently with news items but it is not particularly useful for keeping up with breaking news. It does have rather good items for political analysis, however.

BBC

Spanish feed:

- (World news)

- (Latin America news)

English feed:

- ( Americas news)

Notes: The Spanish news feeds carry most items from the site, but some items there appear to be translations of English items. The English feed has LatAm articles as well as items from other sections, so

Prensa Latina (These are listed as PDA feeds)

Spanish feed:

English feed:

- (Cuba news)

- (Mexico news)

- (Caribbean news)

- (South America news)

Notes: The English RSS feeds appear to be highly limited in what they cover so it’s probably best to look at the site during sweeps. Most of the English pieces appear to be translations of Spanish items on the site.

New York Times

Spanish feed:

English feed:

- (Americas news)

Notes: The New York Times has a single English RSS feed pertaining to Latin America. There isn’t much in the way of updates here, so this isn’t particularly good for even cursory sweeping, as most of the information here is available elsewhere sooner (albeit sometimes in Spanish).

Miami Herald

Spanish feed:

English feed:

- (Americas news)

- (Cuba news)

- (Haiti news)

Notes: The Miami Herald has three English-language RSS feeds for Latin America. These feeds do not always update daily, as the Miami Herald Americas section does not update very frequently.

El Nuevo Herald

Spanish feed:

- (Cuba news)

- (Venezuela news)

- (Colombia news)

- (Latin America news)

- (Breaking news)

- (Economy news)

o (General news)

• English feed:

• Notes: America Economia has only one Spanish-language RSS feed. It is rather complete and draws its items from all sections of the site, but has some smaller items missing. There is no English feed.

o (Nation and Politics)

o (Economy news)

o (Crime/Accidents)

o

• English feed:

• Notes: None of the El Nacional RSS feeds appear to be working. Several Spanish feeds should be available.

Globovision

• Spanish feed:

o (National news)

o (Economic news)

• Notes: Globovision has a very complete set of Spanish RSS feeds because most web site items make it onto the feeds with a clear time stamp. There are no English RSS feeds. Globovision is good for following quickly-developing events because it updates very often.

VTV

• Spanish feed:

o (National news)

o (Economic news)

• English feed:

• Notes: VTV has several Spanish RSS feeds and no English feeds. The feeds update slowly, however (like the site) so these are not particularly good for keeping up with quickly-developing events.

• Spanish feed:

o ABN appears to have one non-functional Spanish feed on its main site

• English feed:

• Notes: ABN does not have a functional Spanish or English RSS feed. It does present news items in a linear manner with a clear time stamp, however, so it’s good for keeping up with frequent updates.

TalCual Digital

• Spanish feed:

o (Headlines)

Ultimas Noticias

• Spanish feed:

o (National)

• English feed:

o None

• Notes: Ultimas Noticias has full Spanish coverage of its site on a single feed but has no English coverage. It’s rather useful because it is a news aggregator that takes items from various sources, including local ones.

• Spanish feed:

o (General news)

El Comercio

• Spanish feed:

o (Breaking news)

o (Politics)

o (National news)

o (Economy)

• English feed:

• Notes: The breaking news section of El Comercio is kind of interspersed with useless entertainment items. Some of the items on that feed are important, but the fact that they lump in useless ones makes it a source of doubtful usefulness. There is no English-language feed.

Andina

• Spanish feed:

o (Politics)

o (Economy)

o (Regional news)

o (Local news)

• English feed:

o (Politics)

o (Breaking news)

o (National news)

Cuba

Granma

• Spanish feed:

o (General news)

• English feed:

o (General news, appears to be down)

• Notes: Granma does not appear to have particularly useful RSS feeds for sweeps. A lot of the relevant Cuban news items we employ don’t seem to come out of Granma anyways, so these feeds might be useful for monitoring official statements but not much else.
