Position Title: Director of Elementary Education and K-12 Curriculum

Position Status: Cabinet Level Act 93 Administrator, Certificated Professional

Locations: District Office Position

Reports To: Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Elementary Education and K-12 Curriculum serves as the member of the district administrative staff whose primary responsibilities are in the areas of elementary education, K-12 curriculum coordination and implementation, and program development in support of student learning.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises and evaluates Elementary Principals and Curriculum Coordinators who have 50% or more release time. Assists in the supervision of the remaining Curriculum Coordinators in collaboration with the supervising principal.

2. Directly supervises one administrative assistant or administrative secretary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets with Elementary Principals and Curriculum Coordinators regularly.

2. Goals are annually established and regularly monitored and evaluated.

3. Ad hoc committees are developed and conducted to address temporal issues facing the district.

4. Course programs are reviewed and updated on a regular cycle to meet the regulations outlined by the PA Department of Education.

5. Principals are supported in their role of monitoring the implementation of Planned Course Outlines by their professional staff.

6. Initiatives are carried out through a program of needs assessment, training and implementation.

7. Monitors educational programs in support of student learning.

8. Classroom visitations, including both formal and informal observations, will be made periodically and consistently.

9. Educational services are updated, monitored and supported through the coordination and planning of in-service programs.

10. Updates are provided to the members of the Board of School Directors, parents, and members of the community through presentations at meetings and distribution of articles through appropriate media sources.

11. Budget requests for curriculum development, renewal, and implementation are proposed and monitored. Review and approve budget requests for elementary programs, curriculum development renewal and implementation.

12. A process of ordering textbooks and other curriculum materials is carried out.

13. Technology is integrated into the curriculum in collaboration with the Director of Information Services.

14. In consultation with building Principals and the Director of Human Resources, coordinates and monitors the assignments of all elementary staff.

15. Monitors the supervision and evaluation of all elementary staff.

16. Advises and assists in the hiring of qualified ad competent personnel for the elementary schools.

17. Supports principals and curriculum coordinators in the use of data to determine the effectiveness of programs and practice.

18. Reviews and assists elementary enrollment projections.

19. Coordinates instructional programming in collaboration with the Director of Special Services.

20. Serves as the administrative liaison to School Board Subcommittees as assigned by the Superintendent.

21. Assists with the coordination of summer school programs for students in grades K-6.

22. Insures the implementation of and compliance with all Federal and State Laws and Regulations, including NCLB.

QUALIFICATIONS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must have demonstrated successful experience as an educator, must be knowledgeable about best practices and serve as an exemplary leader and role model for administration, staff and the school community, and must be able to implement a well-coordinated and articulated professional development program.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1. Masters Degree in a related field of education.

2. Three years of teaching experience required.

3. PA Certification as an Elementary Principal, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction or Superintendent required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1. Must be able to make formal presentations before professional staff and large public groups, that are coherent and clearly articulated, using language that is appropriate to the target audience.

2. Must be able to read professional and technical documents and publications with a professional level of understanding.

3. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as federal and state laws and regulations, and procedure manuals.

1. Must be able to speak politely and effectively with other staff, students, parents, community members, Board Members and external people and agencies in contact with the school district.

1. Must speak clearly and concisely using acceptable standard forms of English in oral and written communications.

2. Must be able to use appropriate productivity and presentation technology.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

1. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra and trigonometry to support original research and analysis of studies.

2. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions and statistical analysis to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

1. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the specific field.

2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.

3. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education policies and state and federal laws.
