The Department of Teaching and Learning encourages students to consider the field of Elementary Education and welcomes applications for admission to the Elementary Teacher Education program. Students who have questions about the process should make an appointment to meet with the College of Education Advising Center at (702) 895-1537 or CEB 221.

CONDITIONS WHICH APPLICANTS MUST MEET TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION APPLICATION

In order to apply to the Elementary Teacher Education Program, these preliminary conditions must be satisfied:

1. Admission to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas;

2. Satisfactory completion of all Elementary Education full-major requirements (EDU 201, EDU 214E, EPY 303; passing Praxis core scores/PPST (prior to Nov 1, 2013); Completion of General Education courses (for 2010 catalog forward); and

3. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 for all UNLV courses.

Meeting these conditions does not automatically guarantee admission to the Elementary Teacher Education Program

Personal interviews may be requested at the discretion of the

Admissions Committee.

Deadlines to apply:

October 8th (for admission to the Spring semester)

March 1st (for admission to the Fall semester)

Admissions decisions are made by Elementary Education faculty (not advisors). Their decision will be based on the review of your academic history, PPST/PRAXIS CORE score results, and personal statement essay, so it will be necessary to include the following in your application packet (incomplete applications will not be accepted):

___ An unofficial copy of your transcript(s) from all institutions attended OR a printout of your course history in

MyUNLV (this option MUST include your entire academic history from all institutions);

___ A copy of your Praxis Core Exam or PPST (prior to Nov 1, 2013) test results;

___ Personal statement essay (see details below)

3. General Education Core: All university core requirements must be completed prior to being

admitted (this applies to students on the 2010 or newer catalog only).

4. Personal Statement Essay: On a separate piece of paper, please express why you would like to be part of the Elementary Teacher Education Program. Your responses should be clear and detailed and should be a minimum of one double-spaced page (no more than two).
