First imagine yourself in your dream job making a career out of it. Now that’s excluding professional sports and being a rock star. I mean careers in medical, engineering, electronics and communications fields. Then imagine the ability to excel and become the best the job you choose both physically and mentally. This is possible through the army. The army is the career that opens the doors to almost any job possible.

When you enlist in the army you have to go through Basic Combat Training (BCT). This is nine weeks of intense training designed to strengthen your current skills, teach you new skills, and optimize your physical and mental performance. It will prepare you mentally, physically, and emotionally to be the best that you can be in your field of work. New recruits go through BCT in one of many places. These include: Fort Benning, Fort Jackson, Fort Knox, Fort Leonard Wood, Fort McClellan, and Fort Sill. Where you attend is relative to the location of the Advanced Individual Training (Job Training) you will attend after Basic Training. Now if you enlist in one of the Combat Arms MOS's, you may attend Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at one location: Fort Benning for infantry; Fort Knox for armor; Fort Leonard Wood for combat engineers, military police, and chemical. The next step after BCT is Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This is where you will learn the skills to perform your Army job (MOS). The US Army has many AIT schools. The AIT school you attend will depend on the specific MOS you are preparing for. During AIT you will receive hands-on training and field instruction to make you an expert in your chosen career. In addition you will learn discipline and develop the work ethic necessary to perform your job. This valuable skill will follow you in civilian life. After all of the initial training the army will send you to college to get all of your degrees for your MOS.

The jobs you choose are depending on availability in the army. Every job is always looking for new soldiers ready to fill the positions. You can be placed all over the world from Italy to Japan and all throughout the United States including the training bases that I previously mentioned. The army also has enlistment bonuses as an incentive offered to qualified people who enlist in the active Army. Your eligibility is based on your chosen MOS, your civilian education or technical skills, length of enlistment and any prior military service. Bonuses range from $1,000 to $20,000 for active army enlistments of two or more years. Qualified applicants who enlist for two or more years in any active Army MOS may receive bonuses for civilian education. Then you have your normal salary pay called basic pay. Basic Pay is the normal military pay that all soldiers receive. A soldiers grade (usually the same as rank) and years of service determines the amount of basic pay received. Active duty service members are paid twice per month, on the 1st and the 15th of each month. You would receive 1/2 of this on each payday.

There are many stresses to being a soldier. But with stresses come experience. Through tough situations you will gain the experience it takes to make fast and accurate decisions in times of extreme stress. This is an extraordinary trait when continuing your career outside of the army. If you decide to retire through the army you will retire after 20 years regardless of age. Then after you retire you still get a pension at an early age.

Imagine yourself being part of a team that is the best in the world and can handle anything that gets thrown at it. Your career in medical, engineering, electronics or communications fields and no matter what you choose your future is in your hands. While excelling to become the best in the job you choose both physically and mentally. With the pride of serving your country and helping others and the ability to impact everyone’s life that you meet. The army is the gateway to your future in any career you choose now its your turn to make the right moves.
