Personnel Changes-The District just put out a list of qualified candidates for the library aide position so we are interviewing. Our new permanent (at least until April) cafeteria worker, office clerk, and evening custodian will begin February 1st.

District Budget Updates-  The 4 furlough days proposed for this year are off the table for certificated staff. Classified personnel will be voting whether to approve 4 furlough days for their bargaining units. If passed, office staff, among others will not be at work one day per month beginning in March.  In addition, there will be more classified layoffs in April and again in July. The 8 local districts will become 4. All schools will be moved to a different type of budget-we will get an amount generated by the number of students in the school, then it will be reduced by 20%. After the reduction, our SSC will determine what personnel and items we can afford to buy. The District will no longer fund clerical staff, custodial staff, library aide, psychologist, nurse, or administration from the central budget.  We will pay these costs (including benefits) with our allotment, in addition to the items we currently fund-TAs, equipment, instructional materials, copier machines, etc..  Schools that cannot effectively fund the necessary personnel will be "consolidated". We will have to see what the funding looks like to know more. We may need Friends of Playa to support funding of basic salaried positions or basic supplies next year. Also next year, 12% paycuts to all personnel or cuts to programs, including raising class sizes in K-3, are still being discussed.

Rental of Facilities-We will no longer receive any money from the rental of facilities. Currently we rent the auditorium to a church group. The district used to take a portion, then send the rest to the school. Now the district is keeping all of the money. It no longer benefits the school to rent out facilities.

4th & 5th Restroom Use-Please remind our 4th and 5th grade students to use only the restrooms next to Room 14 during recess and lunch.

Observation Focus-Instructional conversations/Handing off

District Arts Program-Our dance rotation will be from Monday, January 11th - March 26th.  Students will need a journal.  They can use the same journal for the next rotation (Drama). Please have have name tags for every student. Please have students use the restroom and drink water before or after class. Ms. O’Quinn’s contact information is: micheleoquinn@ and her telephone number is (310) 617-6924.
