WCEN meeting Thurs 24th Oct- discussion on next 2 meetingsFollowing an open discussion at the end of the WCEN meeting on Thurs 24th Oct and informal discussions and feedback afterwards, suggestions for the next 2 WCEN meetings are as follows:Meeting in late JanuaryThe theme will be ‘Information exchange on local authority climate emergency action plans and opportunities for community support’.It will be an all-day event and due to potentially larger number of attendees ideally hosted by Bath and North East Somerset Council (BNES) with Bristol City Council as a 2nd option.Invitees will include:Local authority officers and councillors from the WCEN area, including town and parish councils and housing associations, if interested.All WCEN membersA small number of local authority speakers with expertise to share on climate emergency action plans (e.g. Bristol, Stroud) and a brief presentation on the Somerset Climate Action Network climate emergency guidance paper for local authorities.The structure and agenda will be finalised in November but initial ideas are:Presentations from a number of local authorities on their progress to date with developing climate emergency action plans.Approx. 3 presentations from local authorities / Somerset Climate Action Network which may be of help to other local authorities in developing climate emergency action plans.An overview of the community energy sector nationally and in the WCEN area.Specific short presentations from WCEN members on projects they are currently delivering that could be expanded/ replicated to assist local authorities deliver carbon reduction in the wider community (e.g. David Saunders- Lockleaze solar roofs, Ann Flaherty – solar for schools and educational benefits, Frome? etc) Break-out groups/ workshops?ACTIONSLesley Bennett will chair the meeting Pete West to confirm a venue/ date by mid November and finalise an agenda (please e mail further ideas for the structure/speakers/ agenda to Pete by 10th November – also if your group would like to give a brief presentation) Last 2 weeks November - Pete will contact individual WCEN members in the 2nd half of November with a copy of the final agenda and ask them to invite 2-3 representatives of their local authority and any town or parish councils, contacts etc that may be interested.Early/ mid December -Pete will circulate an advance notice and an agenda to all WCEN members and local authority attendees, etc, probably using Eventbrite to register bookings.Early January- Pete to circulate reminder invitation Meeting in AprilTo be held at the Wessex Water offices at Claverton Down near Bath. Date to be decided in Jan 2020Half day meeting on the topical theme ‘Community Energy post- FITs what are community groups doing in practice?’The meeting will open with a brief round table review of members’ installations completed by the 31st March deadline for pre-registered community projects. This will be followed by presentations from WCEN members on community energy projects/ new initiatives they are currently working on that they hope will be economically viable post-FITs.ACTIONSPete will contact all WCEN members in Feb 2020 to ask if they would like to give a presentation on their post-FITs projects.Pete will circulate the final agenda approx. a month before the April meeting date ................
