Career Aspirations

I would like to be able to develop myself in an area in which I could put into practice the knowledge acquired through my previous job experience and those by means of my studies. Also I would like to be of suitable and effective aid for the company that contracts my services, contributing with ideas that would make work agile, improving it.

I would like to be involved in any field evolving social work, directly or indirectly. As an interpreter and journalist I have been able to be in direct contact with people, helping them in one way or another. I am looking forward to keep that happening.

Academic Achievements

Being chosen to be a part of the program “Periodismo Para Jovenes Valores” (“Journalism for bright young people”) in 2002 was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I felt extremely honored to be one of the few students, 15 to be exact, that were selected from every major university in Santo Domingo. They took under consideration: work experience, college grades and the application essay.

Demonstrated Leadership Experience

• Role: English – Spanish Specialized Over-the-phone Interpreter (medical, emergencies, insurance) Trainer.

• Responsibilities: Assess newly hired and inexperienced over-the-phone interpreters, pinpointing their ability to handle specialized call scenarios such as medical, 911, car insurance, police statement, among others. After the selection was made I was in charge of training them how to handle specific terminologies, people’s moods and professional and ethical behavior.

• Achievements: I was able to successfully train more than 150 over-the-phone interpreters who proved to be excellent professionals in their area.

After our neighbor country of Haiti suffered that catastrophic earthquake in January 12th 2010, I did my very best by donating and encouraging others to donate food, money and garments to the victims of this adversity.

I became part of “Un Techo Para Mi Pais” (A roof for my country), which is a non-profit organization that raises funds and builds transition houses for people who have been left homeless.

I am currently an organ donor and I encouraged a group of over 700 people to consider it, after my visit to the “Hospital Docente Padre Billini” where a number of patients wait there for a long time to get in the transplant list.

I am also an active blood donor, donating blood at least 2 or 3 times during the year.

Flight Attendant: Prior to each flight, attend a safety briefing with the pilots and lead flight attendant. During this briefing we would go over safety and emergency checklists, the locations and amounts of emergency equipment and other features specific to that aircraft type. Verify Boarding particulars, such as special needs passengers, small children traveling as unaccompanied or VIPs. Discuss Weather conditions, including anticipated turbulence. Prior to each flight, conduct a safety check to ensure all equipment such as life vests, torches and firefighting equipment are on board, in the right quantity, and in proper condition. Monitor the cabin for any unusual smells or situations. Assist with the loading of carry-on baggage, checking for weight, size and dangerous goods. Make a safety demonstration or monitor passengers as they watch a safety video; "secure the cabin" ensuring tray tables are stowed, seats are in their upright positions, armrests down and carry-ons stowed correctly and seat belts fastened prior to takeoff. Once up in the air, I would usually serve drinks and/or food to passengers. When not performing customer service duties, had to periodically conduct cabin checks and listen for any unusual noises or situations. Check the lavatory to ensure the smoke detector hasn't been deactivated and to restock supplies as needed. Make regular cockpit checks to ensure the pilot's health and safety. I also needed to respond to any call lights dealing with special requests. During turbulence, had to ensure the cabin was secure. Prior to landing all loose items, trays and rubbish had to be collected and secured along with service and galley equipment. Dispose all hot liquids. Perform a final cabin check prior to landing. Upon landing, I had to remain stationed at exits and monitor the airplane and cabin as passengers disembark the plane. Also, assist any special needs passengers and small children off the airplane and escort children, while following the proper paperwork and ID process to escort them to the designated person picking them up.

List of skills obtained: I was highly trained to deal with a wide variety of emergencies. More frequent situations may include a bleeding nose, illness, small injuries, intoxicated passengers, aggressive and anxiety stricken passengers. Emergency training includes rejected takeoffs, emergency landings, cardiac and in-flight medical situations, smoke in the cabin, fires, depressurization, on-board births and deaths, dangerous goods and spills in the cabin, emergency evacuations, hijackings, water landings, and sea, jungle, arctic, and desert survival skills.
