ABOUT THE CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAMMEThe Creative Arts Programme (CAP) is jointly organised by the Gifted Education Branch, Ministry of Education Singapore and the National University of Singapore. It comprises a Creative Arts Seminar and a Mentorship Attachment, and is offered for both English and Mother Tongue participants.Taking place from 1 June to 4 June 2021, the intensive Seminar provides participants with the opportunity to attend a plethora of carefully-curated talks and workshops, as well as develop their writing during hands-on sessions. Subsequently, participants may apply for a 9 month-long mentorship programme under the guidance of local writers.The format of the Seminar, as well as the Seminar fees, will be confirmed with the release of the selection results in late March. The Seminar for 2021 will be non-residential, regardless of format.APPLICATION PROCESSTo apply for the Creative Arts Programme, go to DOWNLOAD the CAP 2021 Information Package and prepare the following: current photo (.jpg, Max 1 MB)personal statement responses (See page 2 for questions)creative writing portfolio in one PDF document (.pdf, Max 3MB) Click on the link provided at to access and fill in the online form on FormSG. After clicking submit, check your inbox for your confirmation email. If you do not receive the notification, you MUST re-submit the application. Email eotw.geb@ for help if necessary.Copy the REFERENCE NUMBER contained within the confirmation email and key it into Form A. (See page 3). Provide this copy of Form A and your portfolio to your teacher recommender. The submission link for your teacher recommender can be found at must submit your personal particulars, personal statement responses, and portfolio by 1 Feb 2021.Your teacher-recommender must submit their recommendations by 8 Feb 2021. However, it is contingent upon you to provide your teacher with sufficient time as well as all the required information and documentation for submission.Do note that your teacher can only fill in the recommendation AFTER you have successfully submitted your portfolio and obtained your reference number.PERSONALSTATEMENT RESPONSES(Responses to be submitted via the online form)Why do you wish to join the Creative Arts Seminar? Include in your response what you would want to learn from the Seminar, and why it would make a difference for yourself and others. PORTFOLIO SUBMISSIONPortfolios that exceed the limit in terms of number of pieces or words are discouraged and will be assessed at the judges’ discretion. Intellectual Integrity All intellectual contributions from others should be duly acknowledged in the portfolio. Please note that plagiarism is a serious offence. Students who are found to be guilty of plagiarising the literary works of others will be disqualified from the programme. Number of Portfolio Pieces Minimum number of works: 5Maximum number of works: 8. Genres accepted You may submit poetry, prose or playwriting worksYou may submit works from a single genre or in any combination across the genresWord limits for Prose PiecesProse work (short stories/novel excerpts) should not exceed 1,500 words per piece. Special Note for the Submission of Novel Excerpts Submit a maximum of 3 excerpt chapters, with each chapter not more than 1,500 words in length and counting as one piece of work within the portfolio. The portfolio cannot consist only of novel excerpts.Ensure the excerpts capture a complete and significant narrative moment. ?Provide a written reflection that explains how the excerpt relates to the whole narrative and what effect you want to achieve. ReflectionsReflections are encouraged for every literary work in the portfolio.? Your reflections will help the evaluator understand your intent and craft, which may not always be obvious from reading works with no contextual frames.Languages acceptedYour portfolio pieces should be in ONE language onlyThe accepted languages are: English, Chinese, Malay or TamilOptional: Second Portfolio SubmissionStudents who wish to submit two portfolios – one in English and one in their Mother Tongue – may do so. However, they can only be selected to attend the Seminar as either an English or Mother Tongue CAPper and not both. FORM A: INSTRUCTIONS FOR TEACHER RECOMMENDERSStudents are tosubmit their application and portfolio at check their inboxes for the confirmation emailcopy the reference number provided in the confirmation email to complete the section in redsend the softcopy of Form A and the confirmation email to the teacher-recommenderrequest teachers complete the submission at .
