Smolko Updated Enneagram UnitUpdated automatically every 5 minutesIntroduction to the EnneagramOverviewThe Enneagram is a character-typing system that consists of nine different types. Everyone is considered to be one single type, although one can have traits belonging to other ones. While it's uncertain whether this type is genetically determined, many believe it is already in place at birth. The nine types (or "enneatypes", "ennea" means "nine") are universally identified by the numbers 1 to 9. These numbers have a standard way of being placed around the Enneagram symbol. Enneagram authors have attached their own individual names to these numbers. On this site the type names by authors Riso and Hudson are used. They are:People of a particular type have several characteristics in common, but they can be quite different nevertheless. It depends among other things on their level of mental health. Unhealthy (neurotic) people from a particular type can look quite different from healthy ones. Riso and Hudson distinguish 9 levels of mental health and have type descriptions for each level of each Enneagram type.Visit the following link for a detailed, informational page on how the Enneagram system works:? one has characteristics of one of the types that lie adjacent to one's own that are more prominent. This is called the wing. So someone who is a type 5, might have a 4 wing or a 6 wing. This may be abbreviated to "5w4" and "5w6". If one doesn't have a dominant wing, it is said that the wings are balanced. Why is the Enneagram important?“At its core, the Enneagram helps us to see ourselves at a deeper, more objective level and can be of invaluable assistance on our path to self-knowledge.” Equally as important, the Enneagram helps us to understand those around us and encourage us to empathize with others based on what we know about their number. This is an effective way to focus on bettering oneself and the relationships one has with close others around him or her.How does this connect to an English class? We discuss characterization in great detail in our literature class--direct and indirect. In the texts we study, we analyze character archetypes and observe how these progress the plot or develop a theme. We will be exploring our own “character” by understanding our Enneagram type and making connections with characters we encounter throughout our literary journey. While it can be argued that that the Enneagram results will not be totally accurate until a person is an adult, the results will help your teacher better understand your learning styles, motivations, and anxieties, and, in turn, allow for him or her to meet your specific needs individually.Enneagram Types1?THE REFORMERThe Rational, Idealistic Type: Principled, Purposeful, Self-Controlled, and Perfectionistic2 THE HELPERThe Caring, Interpersonal Type: Demonstrative, Generous, People-Pleasing, and Possessive3 THE ACHIEVERThe Success-Oriented, Pragmatic Type: Adaptive, Excelling, Driven, and Image-Conscious4 THE INDIVIDUALISTThe Sensitive, Withdrawn Type: Expressive, Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and Temperamental5 THE INVESTIGATORThe Intense, Cerebral Type: Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated6 THE LOYALISTThe Committed, Security-Oriented Type: Engaging, Responsible, Anxious, and Suspicious7 THE ENTHUSIASTThe Busy, Fun-Loving Type: Spontaneous, Versatile, Distractible, and Scattered8 THE CHALLENGERThe Powerful, Dominating Type: Self-Confident, Decisive, Willful, and Confrontational9 THE PEACEMAKERThe Easygoing, Self-Effacing Type: Receptive, Reassuring, Agreeable, and Complacent?Enneagram AssessmentLog on to your computer.Either type in? click the link on my Planbook.Choose “Classical Enneagram Test”Answer the questions to the BEST of your ability. You are connected to the other two numbers based on your overall health.“The inner lines of the Enneagram connect the types in a sequence that denotes what each type will do under different conditions. There are two lines connected to each type, and they connect with two other types. One line connects with a type that represents how a person of the first type behaves when they are moving toward health and growth. This is called the Direction of Integration or Growth. The other line goes to another type that represents how the person is likely to act out if they are under increased stress and pressure—when they feel they are not in control of the situation. This second line is called the Direction of Stress or Disintegration. In other words, different situations will evoke different kinds of responses from your personality. You will respond or adapt in different directions, as indicated by the lines of the Enneagram?from your basic type.”Part I:Share everything that you know about your number with your group members. Discuss how you might be connected by similar personality traits. By the end of this discussion, you each should be masters of these three numbers (because you will need this background knowledge for tomorrow’s lesson).Part II:Find an Instagram post that focuses on some aspect of your Enneagram number (i.e. traits, areas for growth, tips for improvement, bingo cards, inspirational quotes, etc.).
