|Role of the Position |

| |

|Albany Regional Prison is Western Australia’s only regional maximum security facility for males.  The prison is located 400km south east of Perth.  The |

|prison has been designed as an “open campus” and accommodates approximately 310 offenders.  Activities for prisoners includes garden, kitchen, education, |

|laundry, carpentry, metalwork, clothing and textiles, upholstery and other skills development programs. |

| |

|The VSO 2A - Activities/Canteen (Supervisory) Officer will supervise the Activities/Canteen Officers and work in conjunction with them to provide seven |

|(7) day coverage of facilities in accordance with the daily routine of the prison, and is responsible for the development of recreational programmes that |

|provide a maximum opportunity for prisoner participation and utilisation of recreational facilities. |

|The VSO 2A Activities/Canteen (Supervisory) Officer is responsible for the management of the canteen functions at Albany Prison, which involves the |

|purchase and distribution of goods for personal use by prisoners, and the responsibility of instructing offenders on canteen procedures, and is also |

|responsible for the library operations of the prison. |

|Responsibilities of this Position |

|Recreation and Activities |

|Supervise and direct Activities/Recreation officers. |

|Organise and coordinate activities for prisoners after 'working' hours. Prisoners should have some input in order to promote a sense of responsibility, |

|motivation and degree of self-management. |

|Establishes appropriate sporting and recreational activity programs for the prison to cater for the whole spectrum of prisoner interests. |

|Plans and establishes monthly recreation and sporting programs for the prison. |

|Coordinate and manages special events for prisoners within the prison. (Naidoc week, New Year, Christmas, Easter, etc) |

|Maintains and coordinates the stock and purchasing of consumables products. |

|Maintains safe and appropriate storage of sport/gym equipment for the prison. |

|Ensures all required sporting equipment for the prison is in good working order. |

|Manage the oval, court areas and isometric equipment. |

|Library |

|Undertakes appropriate library training and or induction to library practices for prisoners with different skill and knowledge levels. |

|Maintains and coordinates the stock and purchasing of consumables products for the library. |

|Maintains safe and appropriate storage of library equipment for the prison. |

|Ensures all required library equipment for the prison is in good working order. |

|Provides a resource service to prisoners attending the Library. |

| |

|Resource Management |

|Maintains and coordinates the stock and purchasing of consumables for Canteen. |

|Maintains safe and appropriate storage of stock and equipment. |

|Ensures all required equipment for the Canteen is in good working order. |

|Establishes and coordinates the logistics of the Canteen. |

|Responsible for the management and reporting of funds allocated to both the recreation/activities and library. |

| |

|Managing Offenders |

|Coordinates prisoners participating in sporting and recreational activities. |

|Supervises prisoners attending the library facilities on a daily basis. |

|Plan and control daily work activity of prisoners within the library/canteen. |

|Ensures the custody of prisoners is in accordance with the requirements for the good order of the prison. |

|Complies and works within approved and established Occupational Safety and Heath Regulations and procedures. |

|Complies and works within approved and established security procedures. |

|Follows workplace policies and procedures within the Prison to achieve tasks. |

|Complies with Government/Departmental purchasing procedures. |

|Implement policies and/or procedures within the work area, and identifies and reports related gaps at an operational level. |

|Ensures that quality control procedures are established and maintained at all times. |

|Information and Knowledge Management |

|Maintains appropriate employment and prisoner records attending the library. |

|Prepares various reports and correspondence on identified issues related to the library, canteen, recreation and activities. (This includes such things as|

|recreation programs, special event coordination, Occupational Safety and Health, incident reports, etc.) |

|Pre Appointment Requirements |

|procedures. A successful applicant must: |

|Successfully undertake the Australian Institute of Forensic Psychology’s psychological assessment; |

|Receive a clearance through the Departmental criminal screening and integrity assessment; |

|Possess a current ‘MR’ class motor vehicle driver’s licence; |

|Possess a valid Senior First Aid qualification (or equivalent) received from an accredited training provider; and |

|Be willing to undertake training applicable to the role through the Department’s Training Academy. |
