LIGHTS OF HOPE…I was reading an article by D. R. Rose this week encouraging
us to be Lights of Hope. And why? Here is a recently reported prime example: If
this world were 100 people, 50 would be female and 50 would be male; 26 would be
children. There would be 74 adults, 8 of whom would be 65 and older. There would be 33 Christians, 22 Muslims, 14 Hindus, 7 Buddhists, 12 who practice other religions and 12 who would not be associated with any religion. 83 would be able to read and write, but 17 would not. Seven would have a college degree, 23 and 22 would own or share a computer. 77 would have a place to shelter them from the wind and rain, but 23, would not. 21 would be overweight, but 15 would be undernourished, and one would be dying of starvation. 87 would have access to safe drinking water, but 13 people would not. Just reviewing these percentages shows us the need to hold on to the ROPE of HOPE. Pope Francis gives us the challenge to be LIGHTS OF HOPE.

IN TODAY’S GOSPEL…..the Canaanite woman is
desperate for the healing of her daughter and breaks
through social and political barriers, even challenging
Jesus as she seeks relief for her child. The woman cleverly turns Jesus’ insult into an affirmation of faith. Only then, does Jesus grant her request and heal her daughter. By responding to her faith, Jesus shows us how His mission to the world continues to become broader and wider in its outreach to the world. Pastoral Patterns, WLP

QUESTION OF THE WEEK….How patient is my prayer, how undaunted my confidence in Jesus’ personal love for me? How do I treat those who pester me for a share of my time, attention, love?

CATHOLIC CHARITIES USA….YOU DID IT FOR ME……Climate change is creating hotter, drier environments where crops wilt or never grow at all in parts of southern Africa. With a second year of harvests having failed in most of Zimbabwe, 2.4 million people are facing a lack of food. CRS is partnering with Caritas Harare in Zimbabwe to react quickly to the drought emergency by organizing a series of seed fairs to help provide farmers seeds for drought-resistant, quick-growing crops.
