There are five main roles: anchor, field reporter and witness showing the one point of view and another field reporter and witness showing a different point of view. If you have a group of four, you will eliminate one of the witness roles. The specific jobs for each role are outlined below:Anchor: As the anchor, you will begin by reporting from the “studio” on the event. You will give a report summarizing the basic facts of the event (who, what, when, where, why, how). You will then “go live” to your first field reporter for more details. After the first field reporter is finished, he/she will go back to you to briefly transition to the second field reporter. After the second field reporter is finished, he/she will go back to you again to briefly wrap up the story. Length: 30-60 seconds for initial report, then 5-10 seconds for transition and wrap up.Field Reporter: As a field reporter, you will provide more details on the event and interview a “witness on the scene.” You will begin with a brief introduction explaining where you are, what has happened, and the person being interviewed. The witness will have either seen or experienced the event firsthand. Your job is to ask them questions that will allow them to tell their story. If you have no witness, instead of asking questions, you will summarize secondhand what a witness has told you about what has happened. Length: 10-15 seconds for introduction, then at least five questions/answers per interview (30-60 seconds if no witness)Witness: Having actually seen or experienced the event, you will answer the field reporter’s questions. This should not simply restate what the anchor reported, but provide more specific details on what you saw or experienced from your point of view. Length: At least 2-3 detailed sentences per response.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Your group must hand in a written script including everyone’s lines.Your newscast must address all aspects of the topic and use a range of relevant terminology. Your group should use most of the names and terms listed for your topic. The names and terms should flow and connect naturally to the rest of the presentation (Do not use a word just to use it – it should fit naturally into your presentation and connect to what comes before and after). You should be using most of the names and terms, but if there are few that do not fit and your presentation is still detailed and thorough, it will not negatively affect your grade.Your newscast must contain at least THREE visual displays to serve as your background to be displayed on the whiteboard. One will be the “studio” background and the other two will be the “on the scene” backgrounds for each of the two points of view. You must use additional visuals and/or props to make your newscast “come alive.” Each group must include two additional visuals that that highlight your topic. One of your visuals must be a map (unless you are doing Homefront). You must speak loudly, clearly, and make eye contact with the audience or your interview partner. You may use index cards, but each person must have his/her own cards (no passing back and forth). You must be ready to perform at the beginning of the period on the FIRST presentation day. This will be on ______________________. We may not get to all groups on the first day, but you must be ready. All groups must be ready to go even if group members are absent. You need to prepare ahead of time for the possibility of someone being out. If you are absent, you will have an alternate assignment when you return. This assignment can be completed mostly during class time, but you may need to work on it outside of class as well. You are responsible for having everything prepared and ready to go at the start of the period on the first presentation day. This is an LTA grade for the 3rd Quarter. You will earn one grade for your entire group. The only rare exception to this would be if one member of the group contributes significantly less to the project, in which case that one person may earn a lower grade. ................
