The story, “A Mouthful” by Paul Jennings, was good because it was entertaining. What entertained me most was the topic of the short story, which was a practical joke. I can connect to being a victim of practical jokes and having friends sleep over my house and playing jokes on each other. My comprehension increased because I could visualize the events in the story easily. When a story is fun, I can get involved in it more. It was fun when it was read out loud by Mrs. Mullally. She emphasized words to make it more entertaining. For instance, she emphasized, “Aagh. Cat poo. Filthy cat poo on my pillow.” I also could visualize the father’s face freezing over by having Mrs. Mullally read it out loud. It was interesting to read about something gross at school. It was different than what we normally do, because we laughed and could connect to the story on many levels. I think “A Mouthful” was a good story and would recommend it to a friend.
