UNIT 2: SATIRE

Part 1: What makes TV shows, movies, or text funny? The elements of comedy

1. On a sheet of paper write down the elements that make a text or show funny.

2. Watch the office and on the post it notes you have write down 1 example of each one.

3. Take each post it note and post it to each chart paper

4. You will be assigned to a group and your group will be responsible for each category.- go through the post it notes and pick 3 good examples to prove each element and explain why it’s a good example.- record this in your note book and on the chart paper.

5. Present your element to the class, the examples, and how the examples support each element. BE SURE TO WRITE/COPY DOWN THE EXAMPLES THAT THE GROUPS PROVIDE ALONG WITH THE REASONS DURING THE PRESENTATION!

Part 2: What is satire?

1. Now that you have seen the presentations of what makes comedy funny, in a NEW group you are to look over the methods of comedy again, think about the tv show that we saw in class, and take a look at the examples and come up with a definition of:

• SATIRE

• What is the purpose of it?

• Who is the audience?

• What forms does it come in?
