Chemical Peel After-Care
Chemical Peel After-Care
• After the peel, your skin will feel dry and tight. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling may last 3-7 days, depending on the actual peel treatment.
• Normal activity may be resumed after the peel, however strenuous exercise and heavy sweating should be avoided for 24 hours.
• Wash your face with a gentle cleanser with cool or warm water, and pat dry. Do not use hot water on treated areas.
• Avoid cleansers and other topical products with active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide for 24 hours.
• Do not scrub the skin, or use anything abrasive like a Clarisonic brush, or exfoliating scrubs.
• If you have any areas that are excessively red or peeling you can apply an OTC hydrocortisone 1% after the cleansing and before the creams.
• Do not pick or pull at your skin while it is peeling!
• Avoid the sun and excessive heat. Use a good sunscreen, preferably a physical sunscreen with minerals. Sun protection is a must no matter what the weather looks like, because this will be newer skin cells you are exposing to the environment, so start protecting them right away! Excessive sun exposure after a chemical peel can damage your skin and may cause hyperpigmentation.
