Microsoft Teams AMA October 25th, 2017 Overview On October 25th, 2017, the Microsoft Teams community on Microsoft Tech Community hosted a one-hour "Ask Microsoft Anything" (AMA) event on the topic of Microsoft Teams. The live hour of Q&A provided members the opportunity to ask questions and voice feedback with the product team. We hope you join us live next time! Resources Microsoft Teams UserVoice Microsoft Teams Product Feedback Microsoft Teams for Developers Teams on Air Recap Introduction General Discussion That's a wrap! Introduction Welcome to the Microsoft Teams Ask Microsoft Anything! View the list of introductions in this thread. General discussion Q: Why aren't there Connectors for first party apps? Specifically, I'd like to see a Teams notification for every Planner card created. (Thread) A: Hey Kip, we are working closely with Planner right now on that specific ask! You should expect that in the near future. Q: When the presence information in Teams and Skype for Business is unified - will the presence status in Teams have the same privacy options as Skype for Business as described? (thread) A: Hey Daniel - Yes you will have all of the same privacy options that you have with Skype for Business once this work completes. Q: When will we be able to use PS to create and manage Teams.? (thread) A: We are actually quite close to shipping a rich set of PowerShell cmdlets for team/channel provisioning, plus GraphAPI support (which the cmdlets are based on). Should be out in the next several weeks. Q: Where is WhoBot? (thread) A: Hey Barry, WhoBot is under active development and should be coming soon :) Q: When will you fix OneNote in Teams?? (thread) A: Hey Barry, Sarah, we are currently working on revamping the OneNote app and this functionality will be available in the new OneNote app for Teams. Should be coming soon. Q: Teams client for Surface Hub? (thread) A: This is on our roadmap and likely to be available by end of Q2 of 2018 Q: Will you add support for announcement only (owner) channels and pinned posts? (thread) A: Great ask! We do have both of the features in our roadmap. Announcement-only channels would be a variant of read-only channels.Q: Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business? (thread) A: The plan to move from SfBO to Teams is based upon where the customer is in their journey. If you are primarily an IM customer - you should start now. Meetings customers should be actively using it and evaluating if the features available are there for them. Voice customers will be able to start testing shortly and enterprise PBX features should be landing by the end of Q2-CY18. Sorry, I do not think I will get bonus points for your bonus q - we are not talking about a transition or EOL date. We want customers to be actively exploring today.Q: When can we expect a Universal Windows app for Microsoft Teams? (Source)A: Hi John - we are actively working on this. Please stay tuned! Q: Features I care about, when will they be coming? Private channels in teams Analytics of members in team usage and activitySeparate settings for members and leads/admin of teamRecordings of Team video meetings (source)A1: We're actively working on Private Channels. It's a priority on our roadmap. O365 Analytics for Admins are coming later this quarter. We're also working on Team based analytics within the teams app. There are settings already just for owners. There aren't any specific settings for team members.A2: Cloud Recording will be in Q2 for CY2018. Q: When will staff part of a call group be able to pick up a call via their iOS device? (source)A: We'll be working on this as part of adding call queue support for Teams -- currently planned for first half of calendar year 2018. Q: S4B Online federations being migrated? (thread) A: Hey Andres - Yes once federation ships for Teams you will have all of your existing federation configurations honored so no need to reconfigure.Q: The team pulled the User request for support of Multiple logins. Is this completely off the table or will we one day be able to receive and send content to multiple tenants from a single client? (thread) A1: You can only do this today through Guest Access. If you're invited as a Guest to another tenant, you can use the tenant switching model to switch tenants in the Teams client. Q2: Tenant switching model... does this mean logging in and out?A2: We do want to allow people to have "multiple logins" in the same client instance - without the current tenant switching experience. Requires some extra work and also need to coordinate w/federation. Actively working on it. Q: The absence of a Linux Client is a major roadblock to implementing Teams across our company. Can you share any progress on this? (thread) A: Thanks for raising this Barry. This is under review, we are evaluating it.Q: I'm concerned about what happens to Teams if a 365 group is deleted. What is the retention or archival story for Teams?? (thread) A: If an Office 365 Group is deleted, we will sync that to Teams and the team will get soft deleted and then, hard deleted. We will be launching Retention Policies soon, in Q1 CY2018, and you can manage retention policies for Teams Chats, Channel Messages and Files in SCC. The archival story is documented here.Q: At Ignite it was announced that Teams usage metrics were being released Mid-October in Admin Center. Do you have an updated release time? (thread) A: It should be out in the next month or so. Please watch the release notes! Thank you for checking in. Q: Why does it take you to the feed rather than the conversation when I get notified? It requires me to leave the feed every time I want to start a new conversation that is not related to that topic(this is very "clicky") (thread) A: Thanks for the feedback Scott. The reason we navigate you into your feed is to land you in a "triage mode" where you can quickly click through all of your activities to catch up quickly. Definitely understand the feedback that the extra click can be a bit frustrating. We'r looking at ways to make this a little less painful.Navigating to your feed will remove your badge count but shouldn't mark the actual activities as read. You will still have all unread activities listed in bold and you can filter to your unread activities to find ones you may have missed. Feedback taken though that it seems like you would not want the badge to reset on entry and to be an "unread" count instead of an "unseen" count. Correct?Q2: I do believe it takes away their "bold" status in the feed. I don't need the notification count to show how many are unread, as long as they show up in the feed properly. I could see some wanting that though.A2: It shouldn't be taking away bold so that may be a bug. Alternatively, one thing we do is when you view a message naturally (by just going to the channel for example) we will mark the corresponding activity as read so that you don't need to triage notifications you have already seen. What may be happening for you is that when you click your feed we automatically navigate you to the first item in your feed. Then, if all of your activities happen to be from that same channel and are within view they will also get marked as read. Does it seem like that might be what is happening?Q3: On a related note--and I admit this is a bit of nitpick--on iOS, when I get notifications, the red circle with the number on the app remains even after I've acknowledged the notifications on a different platform (Mac, Windows, even another mobile device). For whatever reason, Teams on iOS keeps the badge until I open Teams and refresh it. Can we get an update to the iOS app so Teams updates in the background and removes the badge if the notifications have been reviewed? Seems like it's a simple lack of syncing issue.A3: not nitpicking at all - definitely understand the pain here and it is something we are planning to fix soon. Clearing a notification on any device will mark it as cleared on other devices.Q: When will non O365 accounts be able to be added to a team. At the moment there is a clunky workaround where the partner needs t have an Azure account. When can this be opened up for consumer Microsoft accounts or just an email address? (thread) A: To be clear, the workaround doesn't actually work with Teams. But we are working on MSA support right now, and it shouldn't be much longer - that will allow anybody with any email to be added as a guest (and they will create an MSA if they don't have one associated with their email). Q: I didn't see any mention of this in the roadmap. When can we expect these functions on mobile? And video too? (thread) A: Hi Jason! Let me follow up on this with someone on the team and get back. Q: When will I be able to add metadata to files uploaded in TEAMS? (thread) A: Hi Luise, we don't have anything to share at this time but thanks for the feedback.Q: Could you please provide us an update if Microsoft is planning to provide MSI (for SCCM deployment) or or O365 Pro Plus installer package for Microsoft Teams. (thread) A: We are actively working with the ProPlus installer and SCCM to get Teams included in the installer packages and infrastructure. We need to make sure we can maintain a healthy update frequency for Teams, so it requires some additional work.Q: One of the biggest requests I get from users is the ability to create Teams without creating an associated Office 365 group. Is this functionality planned? (thread) A: Great question. We can't really dissociate a team from a group, but we are working with the Office 365 Groups team to create more flexibility around where/how the group manifests, e.g. only in Teams but not in Outlook. Q2: Or, in our case, since we are a few months away yet from any kind of Exchange Online presence, will Teams function without much issue if Exchange is still fully on-prem? (Therefore, we don't get Groups in our Office 365 at the moment.)A2: HI Sherman! How are you. If Exchange is on prem you will not have the meeting icon that shows you your integration to your calendar. Other than that the core collaboration feature will work just fine. Q3: Hey Karuana! The plan is to move Exchange fully online or at least hybrid, so I'm not worried about that. But moving forward, I'd like to get my client to start moving away from Skype. However, they are still using some kind of system integrated with Skype for external calling. Or maybe it is Skype itself, I'm not 100% sure yet. More to dig into. :)A3: Yes, Teams works fine with Exchange on-premises. We create the group, group site, etc. even if user mailboxes are on-premises.Q4: Hey Dan, Nice talking to you from Ignite, my issues with Groups and Teams being connected is people get confused with the "Conversations" terms that exist all over for example SharePoint sites, etc. When Teams practically takes over the "Conversation" part of the whole stack for the Group. So for example in top right of SharePoint group page "Group Conversations", should either remove that or make it so we can pick our Primary conversation options so it takes us to Teams instead, same with the now default "Conversations" quick launch Item. Think there could maybe be some kind of clean up with that gap there.A4: Christopher - yes, totally get the overload and pollution of the address book and site space. We just met with some of the Groups folks to talk about how to specify that a group is associated with a specific app (like Teams) and thus doesn't show up in the others, unless actively searched for. Still under planning but I think we'll get to this relatively soon.Q: Microsoft Teams supports Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome & Firefox but will there be expanded support for other browsers?. (thread) A: Cian, you raise a good point. It is a tricky decision on offering a great experience vs not offering one. We have an internal bar of where we would like our browser experience to be and until we hit an acceptable experience, it is unlikely that we will support it. We have rich experiences in the desktop apps and until the browsers you need are supported, I would encourage you to try them out.Q: Hi, we're a Microsoft partner using Teams internally to great effect. Just wondered if there was any update on the vision and roll out for improved Planner integration and functionality, (thread) A: Hey Chris, I don't have an update on the Vision for Planner. However Teams and Planner are working very closely together to make the Planner experience awesome in Microsoft Teams.Q: When can we expect to see the Record a Teams Meeting functionality? (thread) A: Q2 of CY2018 as per the published roadmap. Q: Is integration between Teams and Skype for Business on-premises planned? One specific item of interest is getting presence between S4B and Teams linked up. (thread)A: They have been announcing this functionality :P Here is the roadmap, Presence is on roadmap too. Q: Microsoft Graph not available to retrieve Teams Chats in a SPFx WebPart. (thread) A: We're working on more Graph API support for message content; there are some permissions challenges to work through. Would love to hear more about the scenario in our user feedback system. Q: When you add a website as a tab, you can navigate through the site, but there is no "Back" button go back to a previous page. Is there any plan to add that functionality? (thread) A: Hey Sarah, this is a great request. At the moment there's no plans to add this functionality to the website tab as we believe the Website Tab serves the purpose of pinning static content real well, but we think that for browsing the web is better handled by the browser. I'd be interested to understand what your scenarios are and figure out how we can serve those better though :)Q: How do I switch from Skype for Biz to MS Teams? (thread) A: To clarify - the transition is about Skype for Business Online to Teams. SfB on-premises is not affected. Yes, visit aka.ms/skypeandteams for specific guidance on migration. Essentially Admins will be able to configure the change in our Office 365 admin panel and the clients can shift over.Q: Hi. What're your plans around making better use of the viewable space in a chat channel? Things get scrolled off way too quickly and it's a huge complaint for us? (thread)A: Great news! We are definitively looking into providing a more compact view that reduces grey space and auto-collapses posts in channels. We will also be delivering mute chats from people or bots soon as well (see posted roadmap). Thanks very much for your feedback!Q2: What about keeping track of "bumped" posts? On a message board, an older thread with a new reply would appear at the top again. In Teams, a new reply to an older post goes mostly unnoticed.A2: Actually, we do currently bring a post (no matter how old) that gets a new reply to the bottom of the channel to show latest messages/replies. The scenario you describe is when you are typing a new reply to a post, we do not move posts because we want your view of the channel to be steady. But the next time you visit the channel, you will see that specific post with a new reply pulled down in the channel to highlight recent activity on that post.Q: I just recently started using Teams in my classroom. Can you tell me are the following things on your list of issues to address/fix in the very near future? - Fully functional iPad app. It's hard to push Teams as a good classroom tool if students cannot turn in assignments on their iPads (we are a 1:1 district). THIS IS HUGE! - Ability to post the same message and assignments to multiple classes at once - Ability to use OneNote and create private collaboration spaces for specific groups of students within one class. (thread) A: 1. iPad app - we are continuing to update the mobile apps to have the same features as the desktop/web apps. What specific features are you missing/expecting?2. Simultaneous posting to multiple channels - what a great idea, not something in our roadmap, but would be a great feedback suggestion to add via User Voice!3. User groups / sub groups - another great idea. We are looking into a way to have an addressable set of users that you can use for at mentions and roster management... OneNote is a good scenario. Please submit this suggestion too.Q: More options as Teams meeting organizer, e.g. mute all participants (source)A: The 'Mute All Participants' feature is coming this quarter.Q: I am currently working with a government organization (relatively small municipality, total ~500 employees), and we are trying to determine how to organize our teams. What are the best practices for this, is it done based on department, based on project, one for the whole organization, etc? (thread) A: HI there... regarding organizing your teams... It's our best practice to organize based on people's work not necessarily their department. We want to ensure cross organizational collaboration and the best experience for users. So, organizing around projects, services or initiatives that people are working on is best.A2: Yes, you will be able to do that and set separate retention policies for Teams Chats and Teams Channels. I would encourage you to watch my ignite session here. What exists today is not fully baked and is not the official Retention feature for Microsoft Teams. Today, all Teams chats and messages are persisted forever. Q: Difference between Teams and Yammer. (source)A: You should definitely have a look at the ignite session, how they defined the inner and outer loop. Teams is for high velocity teamwork where you have a mutually shared outcome with people known to you. Yammer is more for connection and ideation across larger groups which may not be known to you. Question to ask... who is in the room? If people that you know- Teams; if people you may not know- Yammer. For example in Microsoft I use Teams for my marketing go-to-market; but we use Yammer for CEO connection. Check this out.Q2: The inner/outer loop graphic makes sense... what doesn't make sense to me is INCREASING the membership capacity of a Team. I wouldn't think that 100s of people (now up to 2500) makes up an "inner loop" of any kind of group/team.A2: It also depends on the size of your organization or initiative. There are definitely times when having a larger team, with multiple channels for topics or workstreams works great to drive collaboration. The key is to focus on the life of your teams and what they need. Q3: I look at Teams as smaller sets of people. I think when you start growing beyond 10s and 20s you might need to think about breaking projects down...A3: This really all depends on the size of your organization. In a large company, it's important to be mindful of not fragmenting teams that could naturally go together. So for instance having one team for a new product launch that includes design. engineering. marketing and support together is better than having small teams for each topic. One of our overall goals it to increase transparency and collaboration so that would be our best practice. In that scenario you could definitely have quite a large team.Q: Will this use Skype for Business Server 2015 to use the on-prem SIP trunks? Will there be support for CCE? (source)A: CCE is for on-premises deployments. Bringing your trunks to teams will be a direct connect. Specific architecture details to come later.Q: Any chance we'll get an "add calender tab" so we can easily view the Teams calendar within the Teams application? Folks find it confusing to have to leave the Team to see what they're all doing? (Source)A: Hey Calvin, this is an awesome idea! It is not currently in our backlog, but it definitely should be!A2: BTW, we are actually working with Outlook/Exchange on the right way to show the group calendar - a pretty popular request.Q: Will the bug with Presence be fixed soon? This is a showstopper for my team. (source)A: We have some enhancements in the works for Presence to pull activity/ calendar information - planned for Q1 in 2018.Q: When will we be able to share control in Teams like we do in SfB? (source)A: Give/take control for screen sharing is coming later this quarter (next 2 months).Q: Does Teams content within conversations appear in the Office Graph? That is, does it appear within Delve? (source)A: Not at this time. Thanks for the feature request!Q: When will there be APIs available to create a team through code? Will it be possible to create a new team and connect it to a already created group through API? Can we create all types of teams (education) through API? (source)A: We're very close to shipping a set of PowerShell cmdlets and Graph APIs for creating/provisioning teams and channels. That will include adding a team to an existing group. Support for the education team types are on the roadmap, but not in the first drop of cmdlets.Q: Sharepoint Settings in Teams (source)A: Great feedback. We'll follow up with the SharePoint team on how things are surfaced; sites in Teams are just group sites (from O365 Groups). Per-file sharing actions do not add people to the team, just to that file. But if you add someone to the team (regular user or guest), then they will get access to everything in the team - chats, files, etc.Q: Is there a bot for searching content and suggesting relevant content in Teams? Would love to use this as a knowledge base in our contact centre. (source)A: Ian, there's no plans at the moment for a Bot to do this. However we are continuing to invest in our search and intelligent search functionality.Q: Can you consider either more 'friendly' email addresses for channels (maybe the ability to define them ourselves? (source)A: Thanks for the feedback. We are looking into this area but cannot give any confirmation yet.A2: Quick follow-up - do you want friendly in terms of the name before the @ sign, and/or friendly in terms of the domain name? Which would be more important?Q: When is the capability for connectors going to be added to class based teams? (source)A: Hey Brian, you should have access to connectors in Class Based Teams. It may be the case that your tenant admin has blocked these apps for you, more info here. Q2: Since when, I had an extensive support case open that went days and cost us hours of productivity and 4 different techs only to find out that connectors was not available for class based teams yet, only the other types. I will try now and see what happens, maybe it has been changed and they just didn't notify anyone.A2: Brian, let me investigate a bit further and I'll get back to you. I apologize for the inconvenience :(A3: Thanks for the feedback Brian! We actually have it purposely disabled for class teams right now because connectors can be added directly to the Office Group beneath. We were concerned that members may add connectors to the Group directly and potentially creating a lot of noise in the Group mailbox for others. We are working to see how we can have it enabled so that class teams can also enjoy connectors in channel conversations.Q: De-emphasize integrations? (source)A: Hey Larry, the short answer is no. We will continue to invest in integrations for Teams! We believe that 2nd and 3rd party integrations help our customers work better and be more productive and it is one of our key areas of investment.Q: We would like to know how SfB / Teams will handle call groups, more specifically what plans there are for Mobile integration. We have run into limitations on both the admin & user side when setting up SfB Call Groups, especially with mobile devices involved. (source)A: Great feedback - mobile integration for call queues will be a part of the work planned for Call Queues - currently planned for the second quarter of calendar year 2018Q: Will Teams get an own Admin Center in the Office365 Portal like Skype for business? (source)A: Yes, there will be a common portal for managing Teams and Skype for Business Policies together and we will be launching this sometime in H1 of CY2018.A2: More information can be found in the below session from Ignite last month: here.Q: What is the timeline for Yammer being an option in a Teams channel? (source)A: Hey Sarah, this is a great suggestion! It is something we are looking into but I don't have a timeline for it.Q: Smaller Client mode/view? (source)A: Hi Steve - Thank you for the feedback. This does resonate with other feedback we have heard. Every user is different and there is no right or wrong way of using Teams :) We are actively working on addressing your feedback but want to be sure we hit all the key issues and have a performant way of doing this.Q: Is there a roadmap for Teams and VDI? (source)A: Hey Jeremy - VDI is a known requirement. Currently the team is evaluating the timing and resources. When we have more information we will add to the roadmap. In particular, which VDI scenario are you looking for?Q: Fully marrying Teams, Outlook, and Yammer in Office 365 Groups. (thread) A: I think the Yammer team would be able to provide you with more specificity on Yammer and Groups, won't you please post this question here Q: When will PSTN calling via both Microsoft Phone System and otherwise be available in Teams? (source)A: PSTN Calling in Microsoft Teams is planned to roll out this quarter (4Q of 2017). By phone system -- if you mean integration with hybrid/ existing phone systems, that is planned for the second quarter in 2018A2: We expect basic Calling plan support this quarter. Advanced Phone System features on on the roadmap for end of Q2 2018Q: Can we get the ability to expire teams/groups based on inactivity? (source)A: Hi! 0365 currently has an expiry policy based for Groups which Tenant admins can turn on and that applies to Teams too. Once it's up renewal, owners have 30 days to renew it. It is, however, not activity based and I believe that will explored on the future.Q: There seem to be no clear answers regarding external users outside of existing Azure users and when that feature will be available. The same thing with private channels. I'd also like to know if the calling features have been updated in Skype for Business/Teams related to incoming calls being identified as Skype or Teams calls? (Source)A: Hey Marc,You have several questions in this one Question: a. MSA Support - We are working on this and it will be coming soon in this yearb. Private Channels: Cannot commit on a timeline but we are working on it Stay Tuned ... definitely some time early next year.A2: Hi Marc. In Teams, for VOIP calls -- the notifications you receive for calls will only be from either Teams calls or calls from other users in the organization. Could you help me understand a bit more about the call differentiation? What are some of the non-business calls that showed up in Teams?Q2: Hi, thank you for the reply. I previously used the Skype for Business domestic calling feature with assigned phone number for incoming and outgoing calls. However, the mobile app was terribly unreliable and most incoming calls would bypass the app and forward directly to my cell phone. However, when the call showed up in my caller ID I could not differentiate a personal call from a forward Skype business call. I would like to drop my current VOIP provider in an effort to have one hub for all our communications in Teams which we use for most of our work, conferences, etc. Also, I don't believe I was able to have a custom voicemail greeting either I'm not sure if that is still the case. We are very happy with Microsoft and would like to utilize the ecosystem when possible but the VOIP was very underwhelming.A3: Hi Marc! Thanks for the detailed scenario -- this helps. For Teams, we do plan to differentiate these work calls made to the work phone number from personal calls using the native dialer differentiation provided on iOS and Android -- you should see these show up as "Microsoft Teams" calls on Android and iOS. Re. custom voicemail greeting - we've already been working on this -- so that is planned for sometime early in Q1 2018 as well.Q: When will API's be available to develop solutions against Teams vs. just creating a new tab? e.g. Phone calls need to stay connected not drop when switching tabs. (source)A: Hey Gary, our Team is working on adding a comprehensive set of Graph APIs for team and channel management. There are some available today in Beta: (Click Show Samples and See Microsoft Teams (beta))Q: When the last owner of a Team gets terminated can you use the OneDrive termination logic to ask their manager what they want to do with their Teams? (source)A: We are working with the O365 Groups team on the right logic there. One option is the OneDrive model, another is elevating members to owners on a first-come/first-served basis. My preferred option is to flag to IT or manager (if in the address book) to solve. We will also need to solve this for private channels.Q: Meeting recording & transcription. (source)A: Recording with post-meeting transcription is coming by end of Q2 calendar year 2018 (e.g. by end of next June). Real-time transcription and translation is coming after that point.Q: We would like to know how SfB / Teams will handle call groups, more specifically what plans there are for Mobile integration. We have run into limitations on both the admin & user side when setting up SfB Call Groups, especially with mobile devices involved. (source)A: Hi Ismail -- call groups working with mobile is planned as part of the work we're doing for call queues currently planned for 2nd quarter of 2018Q: We're using Teams on a database development project. It'd be great if my ".sql" files opened in SSMS. Is that possible? Is it on the roadmap?(source)A: This is on the roadmap but we don't have a committed date for this yet.Q: Know that I heard Dan Talking about Shared Channels being look at, can we expect that around the time of Private channels or you guys thinking way out probably twards end of next year etc. for this functionality? (source)A: Private channels and shared channels are related architecturally and we are working on both at the same time, but I expect private channels to come out before shared channels. End of next year is way later than we are thinking for either.Q: When will guests be able to upload a profile picture in teams? (source)A: That's a great idea. We're exploring the possibility with AD team however don't have a concrete answer because of how it is currently designed.Q: Are there any plans of releasing Teams Web SDK in the near future? (source)A: Hey Raghu, this is something we are investigating at the moment. I don't have a timeline for it though :(Q: What is the plan for making Meet Now/video call available on other interfaces than Desktop version - WebApp, mobile/tablet app? Any dates? (source)A: Hi Randi, the 'Join' functionality is coming on the roadmap here. but nothing to share yet about 'Meet Now' on mobile.Q: Is there a way to copy a team site and all the channels to a new teams site? We want to create a site structure that all projects follow. (source)A: Yes! We're working on a feature which would allow you to use an existing team as template and allow you to use the channel structure and team info for a new team without bringing in any of the content or conversations over.Q: Will it be possible to assign assignments to only selected students? (source)A: Hey Christophe, this is something that is in our roadmap, but I don't have a date for you at the momentQ: What is the timeline for Yammer being an option in a Teams channel? (source)A: Hey Sarah, this is a great suggestion! It is something we are looking into but I don't have a timeline for it.Q: When will desktop sharing be available in Teams? (source)A: Hi James, this is currently available if you are in a Teams Meeting and something we are currently working on the ability to share desktop during chat. No timeline to announce at the moment.Q: With the massive news of SfB moving to Teams and given the sheer breadth of the product moving forward as per the new roadmap are other integrations likely to slow down? How does the team prioritise over such a massive schedule? (source)A: For convergence into Skype for Business, a lot of it is an integration exercise and not as much of new features being developed. There is an existing Skype team which are an integral part of and work on Teams features is on it's way as usual.A2: Hey John - indeed a different sort of question :-) We typically do not talk about internal staffing but if you think about SfB features are being added by SfB resources versus Team features it gives you a good idea of our ability to execute.Q: Are there plans to improve the Caller ID Features for PSTN customers? (source)A: Is this for outgoing Caller ID, Ismail? There's an option to set the Caller iD as anonymous, but can follow up with the team on whether we can set up the org name.Q: Is it planned to have others type of channels like:- sub-channel- access controled /restricted channel- read only channel (for announcement) (Thread) A: Hey! Thank you for the feedback. There are currently no plans for sub-channels. We're going with two level of hierarchy. Access Controlled channels are basically private channels which we're currently working on. We're also planning for Read-Only channels and would be working on that too. Q: We currently are using Slack, will you be making any tools where we can bring our current structure of Channel’s and Members into Teams? (thread) A: Hi Tyler, this is a great feature suggestion but we don't have anything to share at this time. A migration tool would also make for a great Microsoft Partner solution (3rd party solution), but we'll have more to share around this in the future. Q: I've been using Teams with my classes for a couple of months now. In order to organize the material, I've created channels for every chapter. What I would like to see is Group TABs, so I can collect all my ppt's under the same PPT tab, all my demo movies under Demo Tab, etc. Any chance that we will see something like Group TABs? (thread) A: Hey Eric, this is not something we are currently tracking. But it is a great idea, we will investigate :) Q: Hello, Is there a way to create Teams template ? If already planned when? (thread) A: We're working on team templates. We're also currently working on a feature which would allow you to use an existing team as template and allow you to use the channel structure and team info for a new team without bringing in any of the content or conversations over. Q: Do you have any advice on how to use Teams in a mostly Skype4B environment today with the least hassle? Or should we stop using Teams for now and check back in 6 months when the unified presence is hopefully available? (thread) A: Hi Steve! Sorry for the pain here -- We do plan to have unified presence across SfB and Teams available in Q1 2018, and we're actively working on some solutions to help mitigate some of the key problems around cross communicating between SfB and Teams. We are also working on a bunch of documentation on how best to handle interaction between Teams and Sfb, I can get back with some more details on this documentation when I have it. Q: What is the plan for interop for Skype for Business on-premises and Teams in hybrid setups? (thread) A: Best place to start this journey is aka.ms/skypeandteams. Q2: To be clear. I don't want to journey. I don't want to migrate users from Skype for Business Server, but I want users to be able to use both. Essentially using the "client" that makes sense at the time they want to communicate. A2: The short answer is that we do plan for inter/op and encourage customers to use it side-by-side. It is a complex topic which is hard to answer in the context of this short answer format that is the AMA. The website I gave you contains content which starts covering this topic. But as noted, our intent is to enable this scenario. Q: Analytics for team owners needs to be coming. Last log ins and activity are key for educators. (thread) A: Hey David - We definitely plan to add analytics for team owners as well as tenant owners (tenant owners is actually going to be shipping soon). We don't currently have anything committed in the roadmap in terms of dates but it is definitely something we are going to invest in.A2: Yes, this is something we are focused on and thinking about. but we cannot give you a timeline, yet. We are thinking about it both from a Team Owner point of view as well as for Education (specifically)Q: When will we be able to give a parent access to view the student's assignments (thread) A: Great request. Parent access is a feature are we've investigated quite a bit and have some ideas, but nothing concrete planned at this time. We would probably build it on the guest access infrastructure. Thanks for the feedback.Q: In Skype we are able to set our location. Will this functionality come to Microsoft Teams? (Source)A: This is a feature that we have on our backlog to deliver but at this point don't have any exact timeline to communicate. Q: Skype for Business Online vs. Microosft Teams (feature-by-feature) (source)A1: Start with the roadmap to see what features are in SfBO that we plan to migrate over the next year or so. Use technet to see how we talk about SfBO and SfB by features. Q: We have a heavy use of setting reminders and adding notes to your own user ID/account within Slack - what review has been done or what may be coming to allow this capability within Teams? (source)A: Hey Melissa, thanks for the feedback, we're currently exploring ideas for this and will share more as soon as we can. Q: Some teachers are getting a delay when distributing a page to students. Some students get it and others it may take up to 24 hours before they get it. (thread) A: Hey Brian, thanks for bringing this up. I'll make sure the Team investigates this issue.A2: Can you send a mail to classnbk@ and we can create a support ticket to help get to the bottom of the issue. Can you reply back with the ticket number once you get it so I can follow up and help you get to a resolution.Q: When it will be possible to login with MSA (Microsoft Account) on Teams ? (thread) A: Guest access for MSA users (any non-AAD email address) is coming in the next couple months. That will enable those users to be invited to a team, and then use that account to login to Teams.Q: Video Calling in the Browser (thread) A: Hi Devinder. We have plans on the roadmap to add video calling support on browsers. When we add Guest with MSA support, they should be able to leverage this functionality as well.Q: awhile back I was part of some Surveys to get feedback on UI overhaul such as less wasted whitespace, smaller fonts compressing things down a bit. Heard on uservoice that this was going to be rolling out soon, then again and I didn't see nor hear anything at Ignite about it. Is this just kind of dropped off the radar or is there still some UI updates coming before long? (thread) A: Hi Christopher. It is coming soon and we are excited about it! Thanks for your feedback!Q: There is currently support to view document libraries in a tab, but not a native SharePoint list. Has there been any thoughts on this?(thread) A: Hi Sherman, we are considering this. Can you help me understand how you see you or your team using this?Q2: Lots of teams use SharePoint lists to centrally manage data, and they are increasingly using them with Microsoft Flow to automate process. Surfacing that in Teams lets them collaborate on it together without leaving the Teams experience while having a conversation or converting to an ad-hoc meeting to discuss. This would be a great integration point for SharePoint and Teams!A2: David - I'll make sure the right folks sync with you on this. Q: A number of the screenshot at ignite had a few extra icons on then showing Telephones and Voice mail icons, should we see a client update soon or does this point to Q2 2018 and this is icon dependant upon E5 licences? (thread) A: Please see the public road map here. and Yes, the licensing will be the same as Skype for Business in terms of getting calling and meeting capabilities. It does Point to Q2 2018, you are right.A2: Voicemail will be available this quarter (Q4 2017) for E5 users. Integration with hybrid/ existing telephony systems is planned for Q2 2018Q: Licensing implications of moving from Skype for Business Online to Microsoft Teams. (source)A: You would have to get a suite license for Teams E1, E3, E5 or one of the medium business skus.Q: Microsoft Teams insider / test release channel for iOS (source)A: I don't think Microsoft Teams is going to be part of the Office Insider Program...however I'm sure there will be specific Microsoft Programs to early preview Teams featuresQ: Can Teams users talk to Skype for Business Online users (and Skype users)? (source)A: Yes - for chat Teams users can already talk to Skype for Business online and in Q4 2017 we will be rolling out Calling Interoperability between Skype for Business online and Teams (not Skype consumer and Teams though).Q: Recently we saw the Site classification appear on the top right hand side of the Windows App. Two questions:Is this Team level classification or Channel levels classificationIs the classification set based on the classification of the content uploaded to the site or is this a site setting that is manually defined (and if so where do you set this? (source)A: Currently team level, but we'd need to do channel-level for private channels, and possibly per-channel for any channel in the future. The classification is manually specified by the team owner, which is drawn from a set of classification policies specified by the IT admin.Q: Are there plans for a Do Not Disturb or Sleep hours for Teams on mobile? (source)A: Yep! Both do not disturb and quiet hours are on the roadmap for mobile. Totally understand the pain point right now :(Q: Teams: Granting External Users? (source)A: We just announced external sharing for Microsoft Teams. Learn more here.Q: Ability to copy or move channels between teams. (source)A: That's a great use case. We don't have it in our roadmap yet but feedback taken!Q: Leave conversation more notification options. (source)A: Hey Christopher - Absolutely! Per-channel notification settings is at the top of our list of improvements for notifications. We 100% feel your pain where mentions can be abused in some channels/teams and you want a way to configure it at a more granular level. We also want to have a specific "mute conversation" behavior but that will take a bit more time (still on our roadmap though).Q: Why does *everyone* in the entire Office 365 group get an invite every time I set up a meeting? (source)A: I think you are referring to the ability to have private channels. We are actively working on this, but you should weigh in on user voice. In the meantime you can have private meetings in Teams. hereQ: Microsoft has been running a TV add featuring a whiteboard in the add. In fine print it indicated the whiteboard will be available soon. Is there any information on the Teams whiteboard and/or availability? (source)A: Per the roadmap here. Whiteboard functionality is coming to Teams Q2 2018Q: When will the new whiteboard application be integrated into Team meetings so that INK capability can become an integral part of the Team Meeting. (source)A: Hey Steve, take a look at the roadmap here.Q: Truncated card messages in iOS app. (source)A: Thank you for the feedback! It is a bug and we are fixing it.Q: We're using Microsoft teams with a small IT team and started using the Wiki tab intensely. But after a while people stopped using it because the experience wasn't that.I'm not talking about markup, etc... it's great the latest update brought tables to wiki's but we're talking about restoring data (when somebody accidentally deleted a part), searching for stuff, easy sharing, printing and more...I thought it was really nice have a wiki within each team it makes searching so much easier. (source)A: Hey Jelle, thanks for trying out our Wiki experience, we're working in conjunction with SharePoint to improve this experience. Hope to win you back soon!Q: Direct link to a public channel within a Team? (Thread) A: Hi Allison - Channel links exist. Go to your Teams, hover on the channel name, click on the ellipsis (...) and you should see "Get link to channel"Q: Share Take a Test link in Teams conversation (source)A: Great feature request for EDU. please submit it in user voice.Q: Teams: Archiving Feature? (source)A: The way you describe archiving is not currently provided by Teams but this is an area where Microsoft is continuously investing so you can expect improvements over here. Currently you can capture Teams chats and you can also retain contents in the Teams SPO Site. In regards of restoring a deleted Team, Microsoft provides de ability to restore a deleted Group so all the stuff related (including Teams) is going to be restoredQ: Existing Group Team Creation. (source)A: Being an owner of the Group should be enough. Is it a Group for Outlook, or a Yammer connected Office 365 Group? The Yammer connected group wont be able to be “Teamified” (wont be able to have Teams functionality added.) Q2: It's an Office 365 group. I have tried everything I can think of. It was created by a global admin using a powershell command. Any new group created now I can easily link to a new team creation. A2: Strange, you should be able to create a Team based on this Group. I recommend you to open a support ticket so they can help you hereThat’s a wrap! Thanks to all who joined in for this fun and action-packed hour! We hope you'll continue to ask questions and share your feedback in this group. See you next time! ................
