The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Pan-Hellenic Council is awarding two $500 scholarships to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high school seniors planning to enroll in a four-year college this fall. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be of African-American ethnic background, have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (unweighted), and demonstrate good citizenship as evidenced by involvement in school and community activities. Applications are available in Guidance and must be postmarked by March 25 to be considered.

The Beta Mu, Beta Nu, and Zeta Chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma give a $1,000 grant to a graduating senior who desires to continue his education to become a teacher. The criteria for selection are scholarship, leadership, service to school and community, and a teaching career plan. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned to Guidance by February 28, 2013. Two nominees will be selected by the scholarship committee to be forwarded for consideration.

The Legal Support Staff Scholarship is now available in Guidance and at . Applicants must be a high school senior, in need of financial assistance, and have at least a B average. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2013.

The Forgivable Education Loans for Service (FELS) Application is now available for completion at the Scholarship information page at seaastudent. Loans of up to $3,000 are available to qualified students committed to working in NC in areas with a critical need for more employees, such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields, or medicine. Students’ loans are forgiven in return for working in these fields following graduation. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Deadline for submission of applications is April 1, 2013.

Forsyth County Farm Bureau awards scholarships of $5000 to a 4 year college student and $2500 to a 2 year college student who plans to pursue a degree in the field of agriculture. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are available in Guidance and must be mailed to be received by March 1, 2013.

UNCG Guarantee Scholarship is for high-achieving NC seniors whose family income does not exceed 100% of the federal poverty level (a good indicator may be if you qualify for free or reduced lunch). Applicants must have been admitted to UNCG at the time of applying for the scholarship, and have received a combined SAT score of 1000 or above on the CR and Math sections or ACT composite score of 21 or above. Students should complete the FAFSA and qualify for federal student financial aid by March 1. This scholarship covers much of the cost of the four years of attendance and provides built-in co-curricular opportunities for scholars to engage in community service, leadership development, and career development. Applications will be accepted online at on a rolling basis until April 30, 2013 at 5 pm.

North Forsyth PTSA provides several scholarships to student members of PTSA who have a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned to Guidance by May 3, 2013.

Build-A-Bear Workshop is accepting nominations for its Huggable Heroes program, which recognizes ten young people, ages eight to 18, who go to extraordinary lengths to make the world a better place. Entry forms are available online at huggableheroes or at any participating Build-A-Bear Workshop through February 28.

NC High School Athletic Association offers student athletes several scholarship opportunities. Visit their website at and click on Scholarships and awards to obtain specific information about the scholarships which are available. Application deadline is Friday, March 1, 2013.

The 2013 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $10,500 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community college or career school. To apply, log on to student- and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications and announced in May 2013. The scholarship deadline is April 21, 2013.
