Mr. Kellogg????????????????????????????Conference Period???????????????????????Email?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????8 ???????????????????????? ????kkello@??Course Overview????????????Chemistry PreAP is a first year chemistry course designed to meet the needs of the student who plans to continue on in AP Chemistry or take a college chemistry class.?Supplies????????????3-ring binder (1 ? inch) with dividers????????????Scientific calculator (has log button and an exponent (EXP or EE) button)Notebook Paper????????????Pens or Pencils???????????Grades???????????Nine Weeks Grade:??This grade is determined using a point system.??Assignment grades are weighted by the number of points assigned.??The assignments that are more involved or assess more thoroughly or cover a larger body of work will carry more weight and therefore more points.??Students will be given a point sheet to track their grade.?????????????Semester Grade:??The semester grade will be computed by adding the two nine weeks grades twice to the semester final exam grade and dividing by 5.??Thus, the semester final exam grade equals 20% of the semester grade.?*Progress reports will be issued at the end of the third and sixth week of each grading period.?Conduct?-Students are expected to stay on task, participate in class activities, and respect the property and rights of others.-Students will arrive to class on time.? Failing to make it to class on time can result in?the loss of your?semester exam exemption.-Students are expected to use the restroom before or after class.-No food or beverages are allowed in the classroom.-Lab safety rules will be followed.-Cell Phones and other electronic devices are not to be used during class.??ANY use of electronics during a quiz or exam is considered academic dishonesty, and at minimum will require the student to take a make up exam.Discipline?Failure to follow class rules and procedures is can hinder learning and possibly be dangerous.??Discipline will be handled according to the Churchill school policy.???????????Class Procedures?Beginning Class:??When you get to class you are required to copy down the objectives, agenda, and homework on your calendar.??Tardiness will be handled according to school policies.?Absence and Make-up Work:??You are responsible for recording the agenda from the days you were absent.??In accordance with district policy, you will have one class day per day of absence due to illness or emergency to make up your work.??The work from the class preceding your absence is due on the day you return to class.??If you miss a class due to a school activity (athletics, band, field trip, ect.) you are expected to get the work you will miss ahead of time.??This work will be due upon your return at the beginning of the class period.?If you missed a test or quiz, you must consult with me to make an appointment to make up the test or quiz before the next class period.??A note on missing tests – Usually we will not cover any new material the class before a test.??Therefore, if you miss this day, be prepared to take the test on the day you return with the rest of the class.??Make up tests and quizzes will always assess the same information as the original but could be of a different format.????????????If you miss a lab, you will be graded as “excused” from this lab grade.??Unfortunately, time and safety issues will not allow lab make-ups.??The excused grade will not hurt or help your grade.?Homework:??I cannot overemphasize the importance of completing your homework.??Homework is periodically checked for completion and effort.??Chemistry involves many skills that must be practiced, and a lack of effort on homework will have a negative effect on your grade.?Notebook:??Students are required to keep a chemistry notebook.??Your notebook will be your review for the semester exam.??Tutoring:??If you need additional instruction, please get a pass from me to come in for tutoring.??My official hours for tutoring are Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00 until 8:35, but I will make myself available to you at other times if necessary.??Conferences?Appointments can be set up with me through my email address.??kkello@ ................
